bolt weaver rail directly to frame?
hello,
i was wondering whether it is possible to put
2 11″ weaver rail to either side of the frame or even order an M4/M16
R.I.S. to the frame?
for the 11″ weaver rails i would have to drill 2 holes into the front side of the frame, tap the holes and bolt on the 2 weaver rail.
has anyone done this?
is the frame strong enough to screw something down on?
of so pictures? link?

Doing the weaver rail to the AF rifle is something they should come with instead of the 3/8″ rail JIMO… You might have you a look/see at the adapter of Umarex- for the 850 AirMagnum I cut up two of these and machined them to fit tight enough on my Rapid MKII that I had to use a brass punch to drive them on. The two pieces I did this with have worked extremely well for that…
I have also been pondering on doing the same thing to put the weaver rail on my Condor… Except for the Condor I have been trolling with the idea of a single long piece to fit the top rail… The adapter I mentioned above is right at 6″ long, to get a little extra strength from a one piece rail adapter you would need to fit two of these togehter and defeat the extra strength benefit…
You might want to have a look see at this adapter just the same dude, do a google search to see these… You could epoxy two of these on and then crank down the two set screws and let the epoxy kick off and end up with a pretty tiddy setup though…
that would be easier, but its mostly cosmetic…

It could be done but I would recommend the rail has a radius that matches the frame and then remove any anodizing in the area and use epoxy as well as bolts to mount the rail.
Might be easier using one of those scope mounts with weaver rails on 3 sides though.
if the rounded part of the rail fits the rounded O.D. of the frame, why not?
if done properly, it would probably be a good, secure, mount.

Seems like it would be pretty easy for AF or someone else to offer a tri-rail that used a weaver rail instead of the 11mm dovetail.
