need advice on technical question for painting camo…
on a rifle. Not sure if this belongs in this section, but it is a technical question.
I painted a friends rifle and it is coming out very nice (tiger stripe, or as I renamed my particular style of it…”Tigoflage” Anyway, I have four colors—all ultra flat krylon…but I want to finish it off with some lighter green and cream “pinstriping” style wisps on the edges here and there but the lighter green and cream I have is a satin and a semi gloss. My question is : IF I USE THIS WILL I BE ABLE TO DULL IT BACK DOWN AGAIN AFTER I APPLY A FLAT CLEAR COAT WHEN I’M DONE?????

you could get some deglosser. they have it in the paint section at lowes. It’s a liquid wipe on deal.
Thanks guys, I kind of figured it would dull it down, and I will test it first to see how it does. Man I worked on that thing all day long yesterday. All that cutting of stencils is so time consuming. I free handed the entire thing: looks much more natural that way opposed to pre cut stencils. Well, back to work…after some morning coffee of course. 😀
on another rifle i had i did some krylon camo and also some pinstriping and using the Flat clearcoat it did dull the stripes down
man i love flat clearcoat
after paintng my canoe this summer i got like 6 cans of that suff and did the whole thing with it
now i have a nice flat hunter green and it is super strong
It should dull it down without a problem. I would test first of course, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
The only reason why I don’t see the flat holding is that it won’t stick to the clear, but just saying it makes it sound dumb… 😕
The pinstripes don’t get any sanding before the clear right? I guess you probably wouldn’t be asking if it were going to be sanded…
Good question though, most people go from flat to clear. 😀 I like flat/semigloss typically, but that is just me… 😆 It sure is satisfying pulling the super thick ultra glossy kitchen doors out of the paint room though… Take a nice hardwood veneer and a epoxy two part clear and it looks like a sheet of glass over the wood. Lots of white semi gloss laquer cabinet finishes as well… No automotive painting here but I did supervise and aid in the the finishing of some custom bike frames, metal flake in the clear too… The painter we used for that was really good.
We are going to need some photos for final inspection… 😆 😆

the degloser would work but the Flat clearcoat works well and is already flat when you spray it on
