CO2 vs. compressed air
I know this is very dependent on weather conditions but does anyone have a comparison on performance. I understand that CO2 has less power but, is it as consistent? Also, Pyramid air advertises 1000 shots per fill (I am assuming a 20oz tank) and I was told by one of their reps, co2 is worthless below 65 degrees. Any ideas?

I’ve been hooked by co2 for the last 11 motnhs and still counting. I love it because it meets my necessity: I dont like to think: oh no, how much air left in my airtube? (no pressure gauge guys), filling the gun ‘so frequently’ after 30 to 40 shots (if I can remember the count), , etc.
now with co2 I can get 160 effective shots per fill with a consumption of .5gram per shot. 725fps with 8.3 superdomes. And the accuracy? I used to love BM on hpa (baracuda match, there you call it kodiak), but now even with superdomes I can challenge my BM group at 50m!
and with that, now I can visit my fave hunting ground, the fish ponds 7°27’30.25″S 112°45’1.07″E, and hunt for little grabes all day long without the need to go back to the car for refilling etc.
but please note that I live in a tropical country (ave. temp of 86F or above) and I know my limitation. 🙂
I filled up a co2 tank with air today to give it a test later, to 2100#.
with my 2250 i get around 300+ shots on the tank (9oz co2) so if i wanna go with hpa ill get a regged 13CI tank from mac1
but i am going to lookinto the hipac for another build im going to be doing soon

Now that I have signed an armistice with the birds and have more free time, I filled to 2800 with that HIPAC unit. I got 10 shots starting at 622 and ending at 610.
HIPAC will make an expented version by request for the 2240, but already makes one for your gun which should give a longer string, and then you can go back to CO2 in the summer.
You know what they say, once you go HPA you never go back.

i actually have been trying to find an electric element like in the socks and sew it into neoprene to fit the tanks and try to sell a few
the idea is still on burner guess i better get back on the ball now the cold weather is here i bet i can make some sales if it takes off
anyone know where to get a heated thing like that?

i used co2 in my condor and on a few 22xx converts all i did when it was cold out was put an electric sock on the tank
i got the socks at target for like 13 bucks they fit decent on tank just put a rubberband on it to hold it in place
it takes a D cell batt but i made a plug and used 9volt it gets a lil hotter also with the 9volt
keeps the tanks nice and warm when its cold out

I had a guy at a paintball field tell me that CO2 oprates at 1500psi, but that’s here in L.A. where the temps were in the high 90’s. Still, if you were to fill you gun to 1500psi and then test it for performance you might get a good idea of how it would shoot on CO2.
Personally, after trying HPA, there is no way I’ll go to CO2 unless there is something big that forces me to. I love the power and accuracy. Look into a shoebox compressor. That looks like a good option.
It is still like 730 feet per sec and as long as the temp. don’t drop you are good to go so I second that.
I’ve been shooting exclusively with CO2. Most of my kills are house sparrows and starlings between 15 to 30 yards. It is accurate enough for ranges under 40 yards.
The benefit of using CO2 is that it is quieter than HP air. If you’re shooting from inside a modern house than temperature is not a concern.
I get about 250-300 good shots out of a 12 oz tank of CO2.
CO2 has its place in my world —> when your friends/ children shoot, use CO2, when you shoot, use HP air.
Considering you can get a regulated tank for the AF rifles, I think CO2 is a waste of time. It’s way too temperature sensitive and you certainly won’t have the power of a HPA setup.

I tried Co2 on the .22 Cal. Talon ss. I shoot squirrels @ 20 yards. On HP air I kill them on-the-spot 99.9% of the time. When I used Co2 I would hit them and spin them in the air but often they still had enough energy to run and climb the neighbors tree. Weird for the neighbor because when the wind blew, his tree started to rain dead squirrels…. Weird… 😯
Anyway, I went back to HP air. Even though I hate those tree rats I do not want them to suffer. I know it is all about good shot placement but I like the margin of error that HP air gives.
CO2 runs abut 850psi at 70F. It can be consistent if you give the CO2 enough time to convert from liquid to gas… it takes longer the cooler the tank gets.
Think of those 1lb propane tanks and how they become useless when they get frosty… CO2 is the same.
CO2 is good for plinking and target shooting inside 20 yards. I’m not sure I’d recommend it hunting.
HPA is definitely the way to go… I know it seems expensive but you’ll be glad once you do. Don’t forget you can low-fill your HPA bottle for quieter shooting and less pump work if you don’t have SCUBA.

With CO2 my 20 caliber shoots at 90 degrees 740 fps; and, as long as the temperature stays within 5 degrees I have no problem with poi; the gun is really accurate; but, I haven’t ever shot it past 35 yards.
