Q:

Lathe DRO

The Mini Lathe dials are a little screwy….It has Metric Screws, each turn of the wheel moves it .03937″ and the dial is split into 40 segments – its confusing (for me anyway) to say the least trying to get any accuracy.

I stopped checking the dials long ago and just work to scribe marks and measure with a micrometer/caliper/indicator depending on the part when I get close.

All thats over now –

Seig DRO courtesy of LMS

Bit more involved than replacing the wheels because it comes with new screws and nut/saddle

Took the opportunity to clean the ways and relube with vactra

Also changed the jib screws to self locking

Discovered that the included bushings were too big while lathe was apart.

So I had to partially reassemble to turn them down a bit (One just needed the sharp edge taking off the other needed its diameter reducing and also needed a bit taking off its length)

And finished –

Displays work very well, But screws need wearing in – much rougher than before….
