Here you go Eddie..first shot string from my 18" condor
Eddie has been “dying” to see some 18″ barrel numbers. I received my 18″ barrel from Mike and he was kind enough to give it that ol’ knifemaker polish. Smooth as glass all around the breech and man that hammer slides back like its riding on grease, and when you load the pellets in, it feels like your pushing them into silk…thanks again, Mike.
Okay, first let me apologize for the misinformation that was posted with my original shot string from my 24″ barrel. I did not have any feeler gauges at the time and with the help of a few members…we deduced my TH to be .100 to .105…Well, I finally picked up a set of gauges and my TH is no where near that setting, it is .88 😳 Sorry guys!
The only variable that is different is the change from the 24″ barrel to the 18″ barrel. PW is the same (3) and TH the same (.88) One other factor that may be negligible (you tell me?) Is the string shot with the 24″ barrel was done on a day of 80+ degrees outside. The tank was filled to 2900 psi in a 75degree inside temp and shot in around the same temp.
Todays string was filled to 2900 psi in a temp of 64 and shot in a temp of around 55 degrees (don’t know if it truly matters or not???)

I surely didn’t get as good of a string as I did with the 24″ barrel. It seems that the difference in fps ranged from 50 to 100. The meat of the curve being a nearly 100 fps difference. This is only my first test and one other thing is that it was shot from a freshly cleaned barrel, so I imagine it will get a little faster once it leads in. Please put in your 2 cents as I plan on keeping this an 18″ Condor carbine. Thanks.

Looks good 80 thanks for posting and you are right I couldn’t wait but still waiting on an 18 inch barrel oh well have to waiting on something or it isin’t worth the wait isin’t that right 🙄 So if I understand it everything is the same as it was with your 24 inch barrel as is with your 18 inch barrel correct? stock Condor hammer and wieght power wheel setting and all that good poop! looks to me like the 18 is on its way just a little playing around maybe, but hey ain’t that what Airforce Rifles are for 😆 Well thanks again 80 as you know been ready to see this thing in action and it looks sweet you did a great job on trimming it up for sure looks militay style! Well I will be watching I might be poor but I can still type and watch! thanks!!!

I too have a 24″ broomstick, which is fine when I’m plotted up, but the 18″ is sooo much easier to hump about. As far as Crocket flouncing about in the woods with his long rifle….pics or it didn’t happen. I searched You-Tube, but he hasn’t posted any video.

I’m with ya Jerry. I have a bunch of long rifles. I just figured with two 24″ condors…shortening one was a must. I have a 32″ JH coming soon. I’ll be in touch for some .45’s 😀

Does anyone else ever have problems with photobucket?? I found a temporary reprieve by using the bulk upload feature…but now that does not seem to work. I am off to Sears (floor mats, hopefully) and some other running…I will try again later.

Great post! Lots of useful info there. But…. what’s this obsession with short guns going on! Davey Crocket would think you’re all a bunch of pussies for carrying less than a Kentucky long rifle through the woods…oh, he had to survive and making a living off what he shot! 🙄

Oh yeah, its just around midnight here in FLA and I am happy to report that I just finished putting my 18″ Condor back together again. She has all the makings of a fine hunter. Not too Heavy, carries well with the sling, etc., nothing left now but some more crony time and target time to see how good she shoots.

Yep, on average, 15fps per inch of bbl. so that would be 90fps or there abouts.
Yes, the next string I shoot, I will up the powerwheel. Would you say in increments of two? If so, I’ll put it up to 5 on the next go round.
2 sounds good… Do 2 and shoot 10 shots and look at the shot to shot
difference… Then go 2 more and look again… No need to refill… If you see
that the FPS per shot is getting closer then you are doing all the good… If
nothing changes then you have squashed that solution and can go back to 3
and get a good avg FPS with a higher shot count… Paint job sound
interesting…
Oh yeah, I’m really diggin this shorter look. I will post pics of it when I’m done “detailing it out” Plenty of parts hanging to dry in the paint booth. Nothing dramatic, just a nice color combo. Also, I am foregoing the foregrip (no pun intended) for a tactical foregrip/flashlight combo.

Dontcha just love the 18″ grit’? Really does make the rifle more managable and less like swinging a flagpole about…. 😆

I know I suggested to you to reduce your top hat gap and you said no. But I’ll suggest it again anyway. Now that you have feeler guages and know that you can put it back, try a few shots at .070 and see what happens.
