Q:

My first attempt at building a spinner.

I got bored the other night and fabbed this up real quick. I used 1/2″ hot rolled round stock for the frame. For the actual targets, I sliced off 5/16″ thick slices from a piece of 1-1/4″ 4140 round stock. I used 3/8″ hex head bolts for the swingers so when the disks get shot-up, I can just un-thread them by loosening the double jam nut and thread some new ones in. If the jam nuts don’t hold them, I’ll have to weld em’ in place permanently. I took some shots at it with my old Walther Talon Magnum at 23fpe they spin 3-4 times with a solid hit. This thing is heavy duty and the spinners weigh a lot. I’m thinking about welding some counter-weights to the top to help em’ spin longer. Tell me what you think.

LOL, i know it knife. i shot the chicken off and had to reweld it. 😆

I use the .22 lr silhouettes. Out to 100 yards. The .25 destroys the air gun only targets. 😈

Thanks but that’s more work than I’m looking for 😆 . Plus, If I were to cut them out with a torch, then I’d have to go back over’em with a grinder to clean’em up. More work! I’d rather just buy them allready cut. Maybe Noteworthy Targets can fix me up. I’ll give them a call.

i took regulation air rifle silhouette paper targets and cut them out and traced the image onto steel and cut the steel out.

the ones at left are regulation rimfire .

don’t know if you can make these images work for you or not but here are the silhouettes, they come up on my screen almost the same size as the copy.

Pm me if you want me to email it to you.

That sounds cool. Where did you find the silhouette figures?

that looks cool bonestock , i made some spinners with air rifle regulation silhouette figure’s. ram. turkey, hog, chicken.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Good eye Murkat. That’s what you call fringe bennifits.

Good idea Jerry. That shouldn’t be hard to do.

I’ll try to get some video of it in action tomorrow.

Very nice. I would only suggest that you make the target spots in 3 sizes to separate the shooters from the talkers in competition!

I like it. a spinner is on my list to do. Nice job! I see alot of the same blue in that shop shot…. 😉

Nice work.

I have a couple of store bought resettable spinners that I really like but they are showing signs of use/abuse I was thinking of building a frame out of galvanized pipe (with screw threads) and having a place for spinners, a drilled tube to set tees into to hold paintballs and whatever else crossed my mind. This would be big and heavy but it would also live outside on the range. I have zero welding skills/equipment so I need to improvise.

i use spoons from the dollar store they spin great

You nutted onto a 2×4 post 😯

Just kidding crow. Take some pics of your spinner, I’m searching for ideas. I’m going to weld a counter-weight to the top of one of mine and see what happens. If it makes it worse, I’ll just cut it off.

nice ill take a pic of my spinner next time im at my father inlaws thats where i left it
i used a piece or threaded rod picked up at hardware store on the ended i nutted onto 2×4 posts that had a base of ply wood hooked to em
and for spinners i used wire coat hanger for the rod i rolled it around the rod and twisted it just shy of snug and there is a nut on each side to keep it in place and hooked to that is a piece of heavy diamondplate steel i cut with the torch and drilled a hole into it for the wire lol
nothing fancy like yours but it didnt cost me a dime as it was stuff laying round

I like it. I wanna shoot at it!

Also, agree with Rev that added weight would slow the spin. Post a pic if you totally defamate the character of the round with pellets.

Extra weight, even at the top, might actually make it spin slower since it would take more energy to get it moving.
