Microfiber towel and water.

Yeah, My 10 incher is too big to get to the lens. Keeps hitting the bell housing. 😆

Fuck sake Walt’ I followed your advice on page one before I clicked on page two. I couldn’t get the 4 1/2″ grinding wheel in there so I used my dremel. I will now try the lens pen and see if that tidies it up a bit. 😯

If I get dirt in mine I put water and dish soap and let it soak, just like Mike said. I then run it under the faucet or garden hose on ‘low’ to flush it clean.
NOTHING goes into the scope end. Don’t even use compressed air. Well, not from the shop compressor, anyway, it will turn any debris into a sandblaster. You can use the air in a can type computer cleaners.

After it dries you’ll probably have water spots on the objective. I have always used the Leupold lens pens. They are cheap and plentiful. About $7 last time I looked. You use the very soft, fine brush on one end to gently clean any loose debris off; blow; then turn the pen over and use the foam ‘foot’ and gently scrub circles across the lens. It has a very unique formulation in the foam, some sort of lens solution that stays on the coating, does not dry out; restores the coating to as new. It’s really good, I use it on my binocs as well and expensive camera gear.

Thanks chaps. Pretty much what I thought, just wanted to hear it from yous as well 😀 😀

Pab, and good scope should be water proof, so put a bit of water on the lens with just a touch of plain dish liquid. Let it set for a good while, (Hour or so, keeping it plenty wet). Rinse it all off, then use a lens cleaner with a micro fiber cloth, (CLEAN and fresh one), to clean off the final film that is left on it. You should be able to find the cleaner for high quality lens at any competent gun store, camera, or eye glass store.

If not, Look Up Zeiss on the net. They sell it direct. 😉

For F’s sake Pab, get off the wallet and buy some scope lens cleaner….lol

Oi Mam’!! 😆
Believe it or not, I have not been able to find any ‘dedicated’ lens cleaner that I’m confident with. I’ve always kept my scope lenses very clean. This time I managed to pretty much douse my scope in mud, so an ‘advanced’ clean is necessary. I’d rather ask you guys than rely on some jumped up piss taking company telling me that their product is the bees knees, just to find my scope fucked up!! 😯 I’ve never had to use any solution to complete a clean, and this particular scope cost about 550 odd bucks, so I’m a bit sceeeerd….. 😆

I like to use Zeiss Lens spray and a micro fiber cloth. Eye glass cleaner is just as good.

Acetone….. But it can be risky – just dont get it on any plastic around the edge….

Methanol is hard to get but supposed to be the best next to acetone, failing that ethanol or another pure alcohol.

Surgical spirit?

Yeah, that will work. Rinse it over the surface of the lens to remove as much dirt as you can – its the dirt being rubbed into the lens that causes the most problems when cleaning.

For sure! I was painfully careful cleaning off the mud, very aware not to scratch the lens 😯 😯

Sergical spirit aounds like a winner, LIGHT wipes as to not give it any chance to ruin the coatings IF it was to.
