Custom valve results and a question
Well, I have been trying to get my rifle set up for when my 2000 psi regulate tank gets here. Using my custom valve, the most fps I could get was 700 with 18.1 jsb’s with an 18″ barrel. And that was about 1000psi. So I put my original valve into the adapter and got 950 fps at 2000psi. So ive deciced to leave it there for the reg.
Now, ive decided that my custom valve is going to become a high flow valve for maximum power. However it has a very hard time opening at high pressures. So I ask you this, to seal a 0.22″ hole, what OD would the real have to be? made from delrin.

The I have tried it with less preload and its just too wimpy to even open the standard valve.
One interesting thing though. My gun came to me with a 70mm piece of steel tube to act as a spacer. So I assume that this is what came from the factory.
If I ad more than about 4mm more spacer to what I have now, my spring becomes coil bound and the rifle wont cock.
Hopefully I should benefit greatly from the stronger hammer spring.

Im using the factory hammer and would like to keep it that way. Faster lighter hammer seems better to me than a heavy hammer.

Dave, have you tied reducing that overall spacer/hammer length? Could be that you have too much now and the full energy of the spring is not being realised?
Thats a huge amount of preload, almost double what I’m using!
Actually, I think a heavier hammer is better than going to a stiffer spring..that’s how it is with Crosman 22XX HPA guns 😎
Thanks guys for your input. I have about 70-80mm spacer and thats not including the factory hammer of about 50mm. So I guess a combined length of 120-130mm

The valve he is now using requires a fair wallop to open it.. The stock spring will not be able to accelerate a heavy hammer enough to open it.
You might be able to use the same spring you are now and just use a heavier hammer and/or weight???
Blods is 7.5mm +/- a smidge ( English technical term fyi Yankee doodles 😆 )
Yup, you need a goodly spring in there to pop it open I would say.
I have a spare Blod spring if you need it.
Whats the hammer and spacer combined length? You probably want about 75-80mm combined. I’m using 77mm….ish, I forgot already! And I’m using a 49gram hammer with a 2300 fill. Gives me 25 GOOD shots and leaves 1650psi@20psi per shot.(Av 935fps on Bis Mags.)
Thanks pab, Im using a 6mm apature (Any idea what the blod one is?) and I get valve lock until about 1000psi.
Ive bumped up the spacers by about 20mm however Im using the standard hammer spring. Would I benefit from a blod spring?

Blods seal is about 2mm bigger than the aperture… Though I think its only the area that seals that creates the resistance, so the seal could be bigger…

I understand Pab, but I seem to get way less hammer bounce and waste less air from it, with the heavy hammer… Not to mention its much easier to cock the rifle with a little less than the gorrilla spring LOL… There is a threshold one needs to find I guess, and to each there own… Now I don’t have any idea how strong the blod spring is either, for that matter… It may not be so bad, I use a little stronger than stock spring, but I also use a bigger hammer as well…
I know a few years ago when I was trying to sort all the grief and misery out of my posessed Condor, I tried a gazzillion damn springs… If some body had a spring they thought was remotely OK, I called century spring and ordered it and another 5 or 6 with it that was close to it, for a look see… The stronger springs can really jack up your breech slide and cocking handle if its not of good stuff LOL…
One of the reasons I felt I could do the side out option on the bolt handle and aluminum breech… I was having a hard time cocking the breech with the knob under the scope rail and I ended up blowing out the small threads to the knob in the delrin breech… Scarried the bejesus out of me when it blew out the bolt handle LOL…I am going to get back into messing around with this threshold again, soon I hope as I want to make the different valve and pre-chamber with regulator for my Condor soon…
I am going to up the stem size quite a bit so as to really provide the propellant for the .25 caliber barrel… So, I may need to get me a car spring to slam this bigger valve open once I get the machine work done and get it all put together…
😆 😆 😆 Well, maybe something a little less than a car spring LOL…
