My Royale Bull Pup

I was going to wait till I had the final sanding done before posting. I hoped to have the sanding done today but I had to go in to work for 10 hours. Here is what I have so far.

I bought the gun with the intension of making a bull pup out of it. I got it 4 weeks ago, shot it for a day and then tore it apart and took some measurements. I had to wait 2 weeks to get the scope rail mounts back from the machine shop. I patterned the stock after my Edgun Matador. The stock is going to be laminated and then coated with black bedliner.

I am not a very skilled wood worker and have never tried making a stock. I wanted to make the stock using hand tools. So far, I have used a hand held belt sander, chisels, files, a jig saw, lots of sandpaper and I cheated by using my drill press.

Sitting the Royale and Edgun side by side, the Royale’s scope rail sits about 1” higher, at 9”. The rear of the stock still needs cut about 2” and shaped for the butt pad. I think that the gun will end up about 28” over all length. I made the trigger linkage out of scrap aluminum and an RC pushrod. I am pleased with how well the trigger works.

In the pics that have the barrel attached, the scope rail interferes with the barrel. The scope rail needs trimmed so the barrel can slide back about 1 ½”. The scope rail will bolt to the breech and the mounts to help tie everything together. The barrel free floats in the scope mounts with .010” clearance.
