Q:

crony numbers and first test groups on my 2250…

…I have been going crazy buying parts for the 22xx guns lately. My work bench looks like a “factory assembly line”. I have lots of sweet visions for some cool pistols and carbines…but function must follow form and I am learning more each day about these awesome guns.

My first set up completed is a 2250. Valve mods by Roy at mountain air. TP is poly tubing supplied by Alejandro from AC custom parts. 14″ polished barrel from AC Custom as well (this barrel will not remain on this gun, I just used it for preliminary testing…) Let me say that for those of you not familiar with his work he is FIRST CLASS! He made me a 14″ polished, crowned, lapped, etc. barrel and man was I impressed with his attention to detail. His work around the TP was so precise that the poly tubing fit with precision beyond anything I would have been capable of attempting with my limited skill and equipment…and his prices are very reasonable!

One 12 gram cart gives me a very respectable 15 shot string

Thats nearly 12 fpe from a 14″ barrel on co2. Not too shabby!

I still need to see what kind of pellets it prefers, and since it is only a 14″ barrel, I’d like to use some of the lighter stuff. The CPHP did not too so good at 25 yards (three five shot groups 1.124″, 1.174″, 1.250″

The JSB exact 16 gr faired much better 6 five shot groups (two 12 gr carts back to back with 15 seconds between shots) .699″, .959″, 1.040″.959″.510″.650″

I am not too sure what to expect out of a 14″ barrel at 25 yards. I can’t help put imagine these jsb’s would prefer to be moving a little faster than 580 fps…

Any pellet recommendations will be welcomed. When I get my 2250 pcp up and running I will test this barrel with the extra 200 or so fps and see how it performs.

I also ran a crony string with an 18″ barrel on this same gun and achieved a good 15 shot string with a high of 643 fps with the CPHP’s. Haven’t had a chance to check the accuracy of this barrel yet.

I have a 2250XT, I polished the barrel and the crown… I get around 500FPS
at 82deg with JSB 15.8gr…. It is impressively accurate… It has an 88gr
tank/cylinder that does about 250 shots…

I’ve gotten as high as 640 on mine but I adjusted it down to the 608- 610 range for a few more shots.

With a 14″ barrel?

Nuglor, I need to re up on my brown box cp’s. I burned through them in all my crony testing.

Packrat,

I do have a disco spring on its way. I also picked up a stock adapter/power adjuster from Joe at muzzle mack, so it will be nice to see what kind of numbers I can come up with. It would be nice to get the cp’s in the low 600’s with the 14″ barrel. I’ll keep you posted on my tests. Thanks guys!

80 GRIT–you might want to try a disco hammer spring..with my 2250 and 18″ barrel I’ve shot a 20 shot string..with first 10 shots at 677.08 avg.,….then the 20 shot average went down to 644.96….highest shot was 703.90, lowest was 540.32 (shot#20 )..the reason I suggest the disco hammer spring is that your first ten shots just might go up some 😀 needless to say this was with the power adjuster turned out 1/4 turn from coil bind 😀 😀

I recomend using Crosman Premiers in the cardboard box. They are some of the most accurate .22 pellets out there.
If you can’t get a good grouping with those, it’s the gun.

My groups don’t shoot any better then yours, but then I think I could do better if my trigger wasn’t the way it is, I also have another one that has a 19 in. barrel and that one is dead on, and the speed is around 670.

The trigger on this gun is pretty good. It has a Tko spring kit, and I stiffened up the side to side movement with some delrin washers from Joe at Muzzlemack. It feels like its around 3 pounds.

your right about the lightness factor. Compared to my condors…it feels like I have a water pistol in my hand. What is “pretty good” groups Maw? Just trying to make sure I am not seeking the unobtainalbe from these guns.

I hear alot of good talk about the accuracy of the discovery rifles…I wonder if a disco barrel will fit on these guns? Does anyone know the answer? Thanks.

I just use cheap pellets and shoots pretty good at 25 yrds. but I had to get used to the gun it was so light and the trigger was a little sticky.
