Tagdaggers AirArcher
I received the AirArcher from Tagdagger a day early today, now when does that happen?
Installation was easy as was the valve mod he sent with the kit. I used Marmot Militias wrench and had no trouble removing the valve.
I found the parts lightweight but reinforced in exposed areas, the result is a svelte peice of equiment that shoulders and carries in the field with delight.
I took Tagdaggers advice and purchased a Morrel crossbow target, I found one at Bow Tec that was slightly used in their range and the last one they had, I haggled them down to $40.00 in a sea of $140.00 targets and escaped before the police got there, honestly I felt I got a great deal. I also bought a 3 dot red sight, but they did not have the correct rings so I mounted a spare Baraska 3×12 mildot on it, not the scope of choice but a serviceable glass for now.
I shot the AirArcher before and after installing the valve, the valve made it considerably more powerful, but not having a Chrony I can’t tell you what the velocity was. I have shot Bow Tec’s crossbow which is rated at 400 FPS and I can’t say it is more powerful.
At 25 yards I shot offhand, to bench this unit at that range would be simply destroying arrows, it shoots that good. I got groups of 2 to 3 inches off hand. When the pressure drops off in the tank you see it instantly on the target, the arrow strike is 3 to 4 inches low.
I filled to 2600, which is what, I had in my scuba tanks, I shot 21 good shots before the POI changed. In all I shot 23 shots and used 700psi.
This weapon will take any thing that walks in the lower 48. And in a pinch or if you are prohibited from owning a firearm, it will defend your home and family. I was able to put three shots in 3 inches in 20 seconds with this AirArcher. It would easily put a broadhead thru the skull of a threat and into the wall behind it.
Energy wise, we need to weigh this arrow with a good broadhead and then use a chrony and then convert it to energy, I think the figures will be astounding when compared to our large bore air rifles, and don’t forget you cutting a inch or better wound channel.
What it should not be used for is to shoot the neighbors cat ,if your prone to such things in your yard, it is loud! You might get the neighbors sold that it is a benign peice of archery equipment tho and not an evil firearm.
I plan on using this out on the desert where I used to commercial hunt for coyotes in the early 80’s, I shot a truckload of dogs with a 12 guage with #4 buck and at those ranges it will be very effective.
If your into civil disobedience you should be able to push the muzzel loader seasons in your state. You might have to prove it in court, a fellow in Oregon got away with killing a deer with a MAC10 in season, they changed the law to close the loophole, but for one year he got away with it.
I see some elk steaks in my future.
