Take Down Shroud
Have had a .25 LW Barrel blank Tony sent me sitting around for a while because I didnt want to lose the takedown ability of my SS.
I was going to buy a .25 Marauder – but then remembered the barrel from Tony and canned that idea.
Want to keep the takedown feature so no long semi permanent shrouds like I did with my previous .25 Condor.
Cut the barrel down to just under 18″
Band saw keeps the barrel cooler than parting it in my lathe.
Turned down the breech

For the shroud I wanted something I could remove quickly but would give a positive attachment and decided on something thread. Found some thread specifications that would work in the space between the barrel and the frame.
This is the part which attaches to the barrel just starting to cut the thread on lathe.
Little bit further along… 0.001 at a time
Flip the indexable threading tool around to cut the internal thread for the shrouds rear end cap.
The two parts finished.
And threaded together.

Will be very quiet and pretty powerful when I finish the baffle’s, but still fits in my Talon backpack.

So far the shroud only has 3 baffle’s (I couldnt find any o-rings the right size locally.. I cleaned them out I guess).
Camera placed 50 yards away.
First shot is with shroud shooting at target next to camera, second shot shooting over target into backstop which is a good 100 yards behind camera as I wanted try with and without target impact noise.
Third shot without shroud shooting target and fourth shot is over the target.
Still needs some work but I could hear the pellet zipping through the air when I shot over the target which was cool.

Thats pretty impressive for an 18 inch barrel and a handy rifle.

Yeah – its an SLR, just got it.
Cleaned the barrel a bit more and fired about 50 pellet’s before shooting a string.

Gotta laugh you do such a thorough job and then you cannot work the camera. 😆 real nice pictures all through the process excellent help for those planning on making thier own. It was really nice of you to share your project step by step. Thats what I call custom work , you made it exactly how you wanted it. That is tough to get when buying stuff pre made. Really nice job.
Paint dry enough to play with it… especially since the pellet’s have arrived.

I shot a couple shot’s over the chrony and got around 800 fps with Kodiaks – Just over 43fpe.
I have a blodnob valve – the tophat is set close to the valve face and I have he wheel on the minimum amount of preload because it was set up for a 12″ barrel and much more than that would just sent things supersonic so once I’ve shot a tin I’ll start adjusting the valve to get around 55 fpe.

Made an end cap, went back and took the rough edges off all the parts and bead blasted them.
Sprayed with Krylon (kinda dark, couldnt figure out how to turn flash on with new camera).
Just some simple washer/spring baffle’s – dry firing it’s pretty quiet, but will do tweak that later.
Pellet’s will be here tomorrow and hope to be able to post some shot strings and a group.
