.25 barrel bending?
i have always seen speculation online with .25 barrels being too thin and bending. well has anyone here accually bent one? i am just wondering because i always thought you would have to do something stupid to do it.

thanks guy for your imput, yellow ninja i would think that would be a good idea to do some testing and see how much force it really could handle before bending then there is no quessing.

The barrel’s are “soft” compared to a firearm’s barrel – but its a complicated issue and “harder” does not = stronger (a glass tube the same thickness as the breech wouldnt last long)
The barrel’s are strong enough once installed and likely able to withstand plenty of knocks when not installed.
Tim was talking about shipping damage, which I could see from a manufacturer’s standpoint – if not properly packaged and then there are end user’s who are idiots and would likely abuse the barrel prior to it being installed….. but if your not insane and don’t wrap it in brown paper and mail it to yourself you’ll be fine.
I was hitting my cut off’s with a hammer and they didn’t bend or crush or snap off from the wider part of the barrel.
Ended up destroying one by crushing it in a vice but that took some effort.
I sold my old condor with a .25 barrel I machined 3 year’s ago and I still get updates from the guy who bought it with dead hog’s its still killing.
I have a 6″ cut off section that I may machine and test….
Speculation from a manufacturer on something they dont manufacture should always be taken with a grain of salt.

the barrel cannot bend when inside the guns frame.
how hard the metal is has nothing to do with the skinny thin reduced section.

Don’t use a steel brush on it, it will scratch the sh– out of it.
tim post the bent barrel in .25 all the time on the yellow, and i guess he just wants to sell his stuff witch is fine with me. but i did not want to name anyone in paticulare because he is not the only one who does. but i guess the other question is how hard is the metal the barrel is made of?

tim was kinda who i was talking about without naming him. but i always thought that the steel would have to be strong for the rifling to last. and the steel makes all the difference on strength
As YN points out they are only fragile while out of the gun.
Tim Mac1 is of the opinion that they are too thin but that is his opinion and he is allowed that 🙂
I wanted easy caliber swaps and so selected the 5/16″ sizing with no issues to date. Plenty strong for the job it does.
I got a 24″ .25 blank, machined the breech, then cut it down to 18″ and remachined the breech area and cut that off so it ended up being 12″ and remachined the breech.
I messed around with the 2 breech cut off’s I had and they are plenty strong.
I could see how one MIGHT snap off if dropped – but once its installed in the gun its plenty strong.

Good idea for other’s – But its just expended effort with no payback for myself as I already have my .25… doing testing wont change it.
That said.. I MAY do it – just have other more pressing issue’s – car and compressor to repair, have to paint a bedroom and convert another one into an office…..
So it may be a while.
