Q:

My Edgun is paid for – now I need some Scope advice.

Hi guys,

I post over at the Yellow all the time. But, threads get buried there so fast, I thought I’d have a better chance at getting my [somewhat specific] question answered here.

Seems more than a few of you guys have one of these. And a few more of you have more than one. So, do any of you have a Leapers scope on your weapon. I know that the gun would be better than the glass in this case. But, after dropping $1550, I just don’t have enough weight in the coffers to lay down for a Nikko.

So, those who do have Leapers (or have used one), what size and kind of rings do you use. I already know that I’ll need to buy a set of weavers. What scares me is that the objective bell (56mm) on my scope may bump the rail. I tend to like my scopes back aways on regular rifles. But, then again, this is no regular rifle.

If you guys have a minute, please post some photos of your scopes and tell me about the size of your objective as well as the height of your rings. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get a ballpark idea of how far forward/back most guys set that scope, and if most are forward enough to allow the objective bell to “swoop” down towards the barrel without bumping that rail.

Thanks much, guys.

Ted

Hey Ted, my name is Tedd. I didn’t understand what you meant about your avatar, at first, and then I saw one of the gay football players was a Chicago bear. That’s OK, I think football is kinda gay anyhow.

Illini basketball is another matter.

You’re welcome for the info, always glad to help.

Thanks much! That info is very useful for planning my trajectory curve.

…and thanks for helping me out, despite the avatar (I see you are from IL) 😀 – all in good fun!

I ordered the long version because it comes in 25 caliber and has the new LW barrel.

I have high mount 30 mm scope rings on my standard Matador and the barrel/scope ctc is 2.60″.

I sent Tony a down payment for the long version, hope to send him the rest in a week or so. I had to buy a new lawn mower last week.

Anybody want to buy a lawn mower?

quote Ted in Madison:

A bit off topic with this question. But, I didn’t want to post yet another “Edgun thread”.

To the current owners of this gun, could you please explain how the ordering/paying process works. I have the full payment ready for Tony, but have only sent him the down payment. Will it expedite the shipping of my gun if I send him the whole payment now (as opposed to waiting for my money order to arrive)

How did you guys handle this?

Thanks much.

PS. If you have one last moment, to you guys buying the long Matador, what it the main incentive. From what I understand, the long is not more accurate than the standard. Is is strictly a shot-count “thing”. Or am I mistake re: the accuracy? I’m 5’8″, 150 lbs – so, the standard is an easy choice for me. Just wondering……..

It will expedite the shipping… Tony has to wait until he gets the payment
before he ships and he will not notify you until he has gun in hand…. I
have sent the whole amount and partial payment…. So it is upt ot you…

pm sent. Have a practically new sidewinder 30 for sale. If Ted passess, let me know if anyone else is interested. It is HK 4008 4-16×50 SR6 IR reticle. Mint condition!

X2 on the Hawke line up. A little more, but at some point you will want
quality glass on that rig. If you can get it now.

You might want to check out Talon Tunes he sells the line of Hawke scopes and people really have good news about them

The rings are Leapers accushot, but I would get a higher quality set if I
did it again. They are good, but I think I may have a slight cant in how
the sit on the rail. With a bubble level I can see it. Does not affect my shots
unless I shoot at vastly different ranges without rezeroing. I will
probably get some BKL’s or others soon.

Don’t know the distance from center to center.

HTH….Matthew

Glad you enjoyed that, Jim. 🙂

illwill, Thanks for posting that photo. It shows me what I want to see.
One question, the rings – who makes them?

Edit – One more question 😳 … Do you per chance know the distance from the center of the barrel to the center of your scope? I’m trying to get a bead on the trajectory. Most of my guns are 1.75 or less. Clearly, this one will be more….but, how much more?

Again, thanks.

ted

With a Nikko 4-16×44, medium rings. I have a Leapers Mini Swat 3-12×44 that I really like,
but much prefer the higher magnification for long range Edgun shots.

For a budget scope the Leapers are great. Good glass. Side focus is very
smooth. Lifetime warranty (most, but not all).

Hey Ted,

Sorry I don’t have an Edgun or a Leapers, but being from Columbus, I had to respond just because I saw your avatar…ROTFLMFAO!!!!

In case you are looking at others, the Hawke Sidewinders are awesome scopes for the money. http://www.kyhistoricsalvage.com sells them at the lowest possible prices (big brother sets the prices) Give Steve Cox a call.

Regards,
Jim
