Valve spring question and face valve question (pics)
I want to use the Boss valve pictured below as it has a much “softer” spring (the longer one) as oppossed to the Disco valve (the shorter one) which is much stiffer.
I tried the stiffer one with the disco valve but I was not happy with its performance…I am looking to keep the valve open a little longer to allow more air for more energy…
“Ideally” speaking, I would like to cut some threads off of the disco valve face and do some flow mods…and the reason I would want to do this is to take advantage of the “double o ring seal” that is on the disco valve face…but I figured I’d ask the “powers that be” if the Boss (I think it is a boss…)valve face only has the one o ring…but if this is sufficient for a pcp set up then I will just use the single o ring face…what do you think?

Atually, I think your shot count is pretty close to “max”..hte air reservoir is just so small, especially when you’re trying to push heavy pellets!
This morning I did some testing on an 1800 psi fill and some with a 1600 psi fill…it would appear that no matter how much I adjust the hammer preload in or out at these start pressures…I cannot get a good shot count. On 1600 I managed a very low sd of only 16…but I only achieved 12 good shots at an average of 745. With a little tweeking on the hammer spring..I was able to squeeze out 4 more shots and lower my average fps by around 10. I was hoping to get a good shot count on these lower start pressures…but I guess this valve and hammer set up isn’t having it.
I might try it out with a lighter hammer after I try a lighter hammer spring…If I don’t achieve the curve and count I am looking for, I will simply leave this as a 36 fpe with a 10 shot count max. I really wanted to move on to the next build…but I have to at least try a few more things first. I’ll keep you posted.
For sure, if ya want max power, then gauge needs to go!! I just like having it so that at a glance I can tell how much air I have left..Plus it tells me my “stop” point, when figuring how much air for x number of shots….handy for figuring out fpe/per cu.in. of air and such mathematical stuff 😆 ( I’ve got one of Joe B.’s liquid-filled gauges on my SCBA set-up, but it only gives me fill pressure)
Like I stated earlier, I get 21 REAL GOOD shots with my 2250 and the 25.4g Monsters…all the way down to 70 shots @ 800fps with 14.3 ..so it’s a pretty versatile gun..I don’t have a Condor….I go for the short, lightweight carbines, thus the TSS, 2250, etc……

I will say this…I would sure miss not having the gauge on there..I have one on my 2250 as well, and I REALLY like having it!!
With the few 22 nad 2550’s that I have built…the guage is “cool” but I never really use it as my fill tank guage is very accurate and in addition to that, I can tell by the sound of the shot when it is in need of a refill.
Now if taking the gauge out of the equation will help flow more air to a “bored out valve”…and if “ultimate performance/power” is the goal…the gauge would have to be eliminated.
Most of these 22xx guns that I am making are not going to be “powerhouses”. I am wanting to make one of them very powerful just to know I was able to…I will work on my Disco valve to achieve “Bob like” results (at least that is what I will try for…) MOst of the others will be set for decent power with a decent shot count.
I never intended for these guns to be Fpe monsters…kind of makes no sense…we have our Condors for that 😈
I’d like to get at least 20 good shots out of my tube 2250’s perhaps a little more.
Soon I am building my “drop tank” 2250. Although, if I can find another .25 barrel, it will be a 2550. I don’t know if DQ has any more that he would want to sell, or I may have to have someone machine me an LW or a BSA.

Bob doesn’t make ANY parts for anyone..simply makes stuff for his “addiction”…he sold me the old parts he’d used in a gun, because he was going to completely go in a different diredtion, and wouldn’t ever use those parts again..I just lucked out on that deal !!
Yeah, I got one of don’s and Darren is making me one…Makes sense to go with a custom one if your doing away with the fill gauge in a tube location. I will look to bore out that gauge port on my next build though.
So, you’re not going to use the gauge? If that’s what you meanthen you could drill a HUGE hole through the gauge adapter…BUT you’d have to plug off the hole where gauge screwed in…..gotta have the O-rings still on each end ,to keep tube sealed..That way would work, but if you could do away with the adapter completely would give you more total air volume…THAT is a question you’ll have to ask Bob 😀 ..or have a barrel made without the gauge hole!!! Don Cothran makes barrels…

I really enjoyed reading those. Although most of it was “Chinese” to me (I am not that educated in air volumes/flow, etc.). I did get the gist of what he was saying and doing.
One thing I gathered is that the gauge block poses as an inhibitor to effecient flow to the valve. He mentioned “opening up the holes”, increased flow, less restricion…I wonder then, since I am going to eliminate the gauge placement on my “drop tank” build…would the best way to ensure more effiecient flow to the valve, and more volume in the tube, be to bore out the gauge port significantly (not too large as to decrease the thread count on the actual gauge port) and close it off with some sort of plug (please let me know what I would need here to stop such high pressure, I saw some type of “screw plug” that B&A sells in lieu of a fill nipple on their bulk fill set ups…but these only serve to protect the threads as the fill port they go in have “check valves” in them…)
Or what would be the best way to “close” this hole up?????????????
Guys like Bob should start selling these modified powerhouse valves…I’m sure they would sell like hotcakes…You should post these links for all to enjoy (for those who have not seen them yet)

FWIW..My 2250 with a 13 cu in , 3Kpsi bottle, regulated to 1600psi, with PA all the way in, will shoot 25.4g Monsters,780 to 800fps, for 21 shots. Maybe that will give ya something to compare to, lemme know if I can be of any help. 😀
BOB FROM CANADA is exactly who I’m referring to…the’s the guy that sold me his used parts that went into the building of my +34FPE 2250.. he’s a Wizard when it comes to 22xxCrosmans…He’s a member of the AirGunIndex that you just started posting on…I saw your post just a couple of days ago…Anyhow…if you go back through all the “RIFLE” posts you’ll find ALL the pertinent info, all of his mods and how he did them on each gun he has built . He is a helluva nice guy,,I literally built ny 2250 while on the phone with him, seriously…that’s how ;ittle I knew about HPA at that time. I’ll find some posts of his I’ve saved (somewhere???) and send them to ya in a PM…

I already started modding my disco valves. I am curious to see how much I can get out of them. I am building a nice pistol for my friend…so I am going to use it for that when it is finished….That is some serious energy your friend got. Someone mentioned on another forum that Bob from Canada did a serious mod and achieved that kind of energy…is that who you are referring to??? I’d imagine that it isn’t much for shot count. I achieved 36.5 fpe yesterday but it was only good for 12 shots on a 2000 psi fill. I am going to tune that carbine for a minimum of 20 shots and I should be able to keep the fpe between 24 and 30 for a shot count of 20 to 30…at least that is my goal.
Ii went through all that wondering myself when I was building a disco…until it occured to me that one o-ring IS enough, because that’s all that the gauge adapter uses…one on each side 😳 😳 and it works just fine!!!
Naturally your “BOSS” valve is gonna give ya more flow than a “stock” disco valve…But, you can do all the flow improvement mods to a disco valve and it will give you great performance..Friend of mine uses a modified disco valve in his disco, with a 3000psi jds bottle…he’s getting +52 FPE…so I know the disco valve has the potential 😯 😯
If though, you decide you want to sell the stock disco valve, I’d be interested 🙂
