UPDATE: Group photos and S.O.S on disco/carbine hunter…

…I can’t say if it was the actual lighter valve spring or the valve itself, as I did not deduce as I should have by keeping the disco valve in place but using the “boss valve face” with lighter spring. Instead I just opted to put the “boss valve” in and be done with it. I am convinced, through my limited, but accelerated experience with these 22xx’s…that the “Boss valve” would edge the “disco valve” by a considerable margin, and I’m sure most of you would agree with that.

On Max hammer spring compression on my power adjuster I nailed a string of 18 good shots with a low of 730 and a high of 760 fps with 25.4 gr JSB KINGS. Accuracy testing will commence when I find some time.

This is what this baby has in her:

Disco tube, Crosman trigger frame, TKO trigger spring kit, Mountain air trigger shoe, .25 LW 24″ barrel blued and accurized by Mountain air, Crosman steel breech, MA .25 brass bolt probe, HDD (otherwise she will degass with one or two trigger pulls 😛 , Muzzle mack power adjuster and Stock adapter, M4 six position stock, 60 gram polished Crosman hammer and heavier gauge hammer spring (sorry, not sure what it is from…) MA muzzle brake modified by me to clear fill cap, Scot (GTBJ) custom made condor foregrip, modified by me to fit this project (trunk liner and rustoleum olive drab paint applied by me), 3×9 nikon prostaff with digi tape treatment, Mac 1 one piece drooper, wally world flavor of the month bipod.

She is light, she shoulders well, she hits hard enough for small game, and I am confident she will be accurate to boot!

COOL BEANS>>>> I’m amazed at just how much can be done with the Crosman 22xx series (that’s all a disco is–2260 with an air tube 🙂 ) Glad to hear it’s so accurate, but that isn’t really a surprise-I luv ’em!!

Yeah, I am there and ready to move on to the next build. I spent the dusk hours tonight taking the training wheels off of my boys bike…and after he launched and fell a few times he was off to the races.

Before we came in I set up three used up spray paint cans 55 yards out for some off hand shooting. I had the zero set at 16 yards from earlier in the day (it was stacking them in the same hole all day…)

I had a balloon set up on a tree at forty yards and my zero for 16 was true at 40. For the three cans I didn’ hold too high, I just aimed at the lids and my pellets smacked pretty much dead center. At 55 yards they ripped clean through them! Man I love this little carbine. I looked for my scale to weigh it for you packrat…but it is burried in a mass of the unknown 😯 I will find out, but I have to tell you it feels like a feather in your hand

Sounds like you’re “there”..at the point that every PCP gets to…making the decision of just exactly what you expect from the gun…That’s where the HPA (regulated) has the big advantage..I still maintain though, that like your Disco…rifles without the external bottle do look better..IMO..which is why I built my 2260/disco, with that cool looking AR2078A stock…they just look better without the bottle 🙂

After further testing, it seems the best I am going to do out of this gun as it is set up right now is a max preload on adjuster for a 37 fpe high, but only 10 good shots.

If I want to stretch it out to 20 good shots, I go out on the preload 3 to 4 turns. Then I get an high fpe of 33.6. With an ES of 50. I think that ES is a little high…but I would rather have a 10 fps ES higher and double the shots I can get on a 40 ES with only 10 shots. I don’t think it will see ES’s in the 20’s…at least not the way she is set up.

If I go for even less hammer spring preload…I can get a 30 shot string, however, my ES gets even worse (83). So I will keep her set at 20 shots for now.

I almost forgot to mention. I was able to get very low ES 10 to17 for only 10 shot counts, however (high of 757 fps) on a 1600 psi SP. I opted for the 2000 psi SP for the 20 shot count instead.

20 shots of over 30 fpe with “head shot” accuracy in .25…I’d say this one is good enough. Time to move on to the next build 😀

Dave G saves the day! He instructed me to check for drag in the tube and sure enough the hammer I was using was certainly dragging. It made a perfectly shiny strip dead center in the tube. I opened up one of my other 22xx guns and took out the hammer to try a different one and sure enough…no drag, and she cocks like she is suppossed to. Now I can enjoy searching for the perfect bell curve. Thanks again Dave!

bump…S.O.S. Please help. Need advice on why my cocking effort feels like 300 pounds 😡 😥 😡 😥 😡 😥

I feel like a mad scientist…now I have a little bit of a problem. I can’t figure this out for the life of me…perhaps you guys can save the day once again.

I am sitting here typing with an ice pack on my front bicep area. I just sent 60 pellets down range for accuracy…and man does she group. most 5 shot groups at 25 yards were around 1/4 to 3/8″ .

I was messing around trying to figure out a way to make it easier to cock because this S.O.B. is hard as HELL TO COCK! Now I aint no girly man, I am much stronger than the average man and man did this thing bust me up!!!

You can imagine how hard it is to cock when you consider that I snapped not one, but two bolt probes in half, one was brass the other some kind of silver metal (not sure what?)

I tried a variety of combos…different springs, different hammer weights, different pre loads….Even when I put in a “girly” light hammer spring that only netted me 400 fps…it was still difficult to cock (not nearly as easy as it should have been with such a light hammer spring). I even removed the HDD just to see if that would matter, and as a result It did not get any easier, but I gained another 4 fpe when on max spring compression, and it did not Degas like it did the other day 😯 When I go all the way to minimum spring compression it makes no difference…still a bitch to cock! I don’t know what else to do. This will not do and I have to figure this out. I don’t own a stock discovery…but what is really different about the mechanics of my build and a discovery??? I’d imagine the only difference is the spring and the hammer (if in fact they are any different). But again, I used a spring from a Crosman 2300 and it was still very difficult to cock…despite this being a very light spring. I checked and rechecked for clearance issues and nothing is “snagging” it up. Please help!!!

I ran some more numbers and here are the strings.

On a 2000 psi fill and the Muzzle Mack power adjuster set on Max compression with JSB 25.4 gr I achieved a max fpe of 36.5

Not a great string, but if I wasn’t having this problem with the cocking effort I would be able to fine tune this, but until I figure it out, I won’t be able to tune.
