Q:

E-TaCREG first trial

My E-TaCREGs came in the mail saturday . The bottle and 2200 psi reg made it today . Everything went together with no real issues . ( A 1 &1/4 “” socket with a hole drilled in the side makes a great valve removal tool . )
I tryed it first with the 22 condor . It lined up perfectly no shims needed . By playing with the power wheel could get from 960 to 1000 fps with 18g JSBs . Perfect ! Looked to be very consistant in the limited testing I did with the 22 .
Next came the 25 which is what I was really interested in . This time it needed 3 shims to line up right . First shots were 900 fps with 25g JSBs , NOT what I was hoping for . I ran the TH out to .090 ,PW to max , got very little change . 912 fps was the highest I recorded . ( I’m using a 74g bronze hammer . )
Rifle shoots 1000 + with a 2200 psi fill on standard bottle and valve with the JSBs . The regulated chamber area has got to be the limiting factor .
Looks like it will take a 2400 or 2500 psi reg to get what we need in velocity for the 25 .
If anyone has tried one yet please post results .

Things have been busy at the ranch , but I finally got to the VFD and got some more air . I gave the 22 condor a work out with the new bottle and 2200psi reg . A smidge over 3000 psi fill , it took 52 shots to bring the gauge down to 2200 psi . The high was 991 the low was 979 fps , the average vel was 986 . This was with 18g JSBs .
Accuracy is great ! I was shooting pretty fast at a 2” spinner at 60 yds. I had two misses ! Maybe Jim is right , this could almost get boring .
If your sitting on the fence wondering if you should try this rig , get off the fence before you get a sore on your butt . This is money well spent !
I havn’t ordered my reg for the 25 yet . Still trying to decide wether to get a 2400 or 2500 psi . I’m thinking probably 2500 .

You know i was thinking 2000 psi because i fill to 2100 and refill at 1900, by my airforce refill adapter, but the scuba scuba shops gauge says 300 psi more than my air force gauge,

so maybe i would need 2200 or 2300 for the set up that i am running right now. because by the scuba shops gauge i am filling to 2400 and refilling at 2100. to keep 14 grain pellets at around the 980’s.

Yes round nose , don’t know about the pointed but would have doubts about them .

SS&SU,

I assume they are the round nose, not the pointed?

Please advise.

For many shooters the 2000 psi reg may work out best for the 22 .

Jim I am becoming more and more impressed with the benjis for long range shooting . At 70+ yds they may out perform the JSBs . They seem to remain accurate up to 1000 fps .

Which of the Benjis are you referring to? I’ll get a tin of them as well.

Jim

They are the new .25 Benjamin pellets around 28 grains. I tried them out and they worked well at 950 fps out to 100 yards on gophers.

MAC1 and many others carry them Midway had them at 3.99 up to around 9.99 for 200.

Jim what you are doing is fantastic!!!

Emailed Vance at AH and you are correct that the AF reg is better suited for CO2 due to the volume issue unlike your design. This is why AH mods the AF CO2 adapters.

I am about to start testing a .22 18″ barrel with my AF adapter 2000 psi reg, 490cc and 800cc 3000 psi tank using .22 Predator pellets as I am pretty happy with the .25 JSB numbers.

so do you think that a 2000 reg for keeping 14 grain pellets under 1000. in 900s

PB,

I can’t wait to get my pellets and try it. I certainly think, since the larger bore should be more efficient, that the 14gr (less than the .22 pellets I used) should certainly be in the 900s….but we will wait for numbers.

Randyhub,

Thanks for posting those numbers. The CO2 adapter has 1/3 the volume of the E-TaCREG. I’m pretty sure higher pressure, not more air, is required.

The volume of the E-TaCREG is also 3x the volume of the .22 barrel, so it’s not a matter of more air, in my opinion.

SS&SU,

Thanks for the kind words. I hope the higher pressure regs will be the answer for the .25 crowd. I just popped a Sam Adams for ya!

I got a chance to shoot the .22 and .177 for a little bit yesterday at the range. It was very accurate and very consistent at 44 yds. Not much testing on the .177, but without trying, I was in the high 800s with an 18″ barrel and PW bottomed out (JSB heavies). I did crank a few out at higher PW settings and it will really bark.

My goal is to get A LOT of numbers for you guys this week so you can be comfortable with the product I provide.

Jim

To say I”m not happy with results is wrong , wrong , wrong . What the hell we are testing things ,
The 22 seems almost perfect to me ! This is where probably 90% of your market is .
Finally a regulated condor super accurate , very powerful , at a price much less than any thing fron over seas .
Everyone open another beer !
Like you see in a lot of post the 25 condor is totally addicting . We just have to work out what is best for this caliber . should be a lot of fun !
Also the larger bottle seems to give a better cheek weld . Al though the same length as standard bottle the LOP seems less ,. A good butt plate will take care of that when I finally figure it out .
Congratulations on a job well done !

I got these results using a 2550 psi fill, 2000 psi JDS reg, 48ci tank, 100g hammer, 24″ polygonal barrel, and .25 JSBs.

So his reg is still doing pretty good I would say, they real payoff is consistantcy not power with a reg and the AF CO2 adapter is pretty fragile I think already broke a valve stem.

SS&SU,

Sorry to hear you are not happy with the numbers on the .25. I have not had a chance to test it with that caliber.

I’ll have all the different regs, including the 2500psi, this week. I’ll test and see what the numbers come out to.

Are the .25 JSBs the pellet you want tested? or should I test the Eun Jins as well? What length barrel?

Please advise.

Regards,
Jim
