new talon ss- hi flow valve question
i have a new Talon SS arriving tomorrow and i already have purchased a CO2 tank and adapter to go with the standard setup. I read somewhere on here that the CO2 adapter is basically a condor hi flow valve and adapter fitting. Is this true and can i remove the valve and convert the Talon SS to higher power? I realize that to fully convert it I need the condor tank and 22″ barrel but I am just looking for a simple power boost using the stuff I have already bought. Any idea how much velocity increase we are talking about( assuming it’s true about the CO2 adapter containing a Condor valve)?

well, like most folks i love my talon ss but want more QUIET power. after digesting the above comments it seems the easiest route is a 18 inch barrel with a shroud. since the stock 12 inch barrel doesn’t come near the factory frame end, i wondered if an 18 inch barrel with a short shroud would work to dampen the sound. i have already packed the frame with the spring/washer /O-ring silencer material and it works quite well. my thought was to just remove the sound dampeners, swap out the 12 inch barrel, and install an 18 inch barrel and short shroud( and possibly drill holes in the front barrel bushing). opinions and suggestions about where to get the barrel/shroud combo would be appreciated. i know that everyone seems to recommend the TT and GTBJ shrouds but their websites have NO info about size, cost, etc. in fact i can’t find a website for GTBJ. i have a feeling that most machinists are worried about getting in trouble with the BATF. any suggestions greatly appreciated!!!

Yes there was a special on the 22 inchers for $47.00. So we bought a truck load of them. You missed it because you were argueing with Riverside.
Naw just kidding, I think I saw where someone said they were 22 inches and just copied that, I just measured mine and it is actualy 24 Inches, I stand corrected.

i was wondering the same thing. i went to 2 different Home Depots Sunday and couldn’t find the fender washers or springs at either one. i guess i will try Lowe’s next.

Add about 15 fps per inch of bbl. on average.
Where are you guys getting all these 22″ bbl’s? (My .25 is 21″ and I love it! )

Look in the quick reference section and moderator section and you will find how to decrease the sound even more with a trip to home depot.
Fill to 3000k and put your powerwheel on 4.
That is a good place to start and the CP should be doing about 850fps.
well, the Talon SS arrived Sat and the Centerpoint 4-16×40 scope arrived from Hong Kong via ebay today. mounted the scope and took a few shots to get it on paper this afternoon before I ran out of light. right out of the gate, the scope was midline and a few turns of the elevation turret put POI 1 inch low at 10 yards. can’t get it zeroed till this weekend but things are looking good so far. initial impression: slightly noisier than i expected but about the same as my BEN. Trail NP XL( although a completely “different” sound). very light weight. high “cool” factor as far as general appearance. NO RECOIL!!. easy to set up as far as no barrel to clean( the Benji barrel was full of sludge) . overall I am REALLY pleased. can’t wait to zero it this weekend and give the local ground squirrels another cause to hide. any advice as to initial fill pressure and PW setting for shooting CP domes(.22) would be greatly appreciated. thanks for everyone’s advice in aiding my learning curve. By far the easiest way to up the power is putting a 22 inch barrel on that SS.
At first I had the Condor, it was my first air rifle in 50 years so the power was not that big of a deal to me, I had shot 340 weatherys and 45/100s so 32 grains at 950 was no big deal, but the more I got back into air rifles the more I wanted a 12 inch Condor SS, and it worked but it is louder and I have trouble with internal parts alignment staying in place.
Then I got a Talon tank so I could have Talon SS setup,it was nice and quiet, like your gun is, when I put that 22 inch barrel and the Talon tank together, things started working really well.
I do most of my squirrel hunting with that setup.
I haven’t given up on power, I still use the Condor set up, and I leave the Condor hammer bushing in all the time. But I now have a dedicated 12 inch frame and a dedicated 22 inch frame.
Also I play with the Airarcher, which is the most lethal of all these combinations, it shoots faster than almost any crossbow made, and is far handier.
Next step will be a 22 inch 25 caliber, I have a more powerful valve coming for the 25. Then I can play with the 22 and the 25 side by side to determine which one I want to keep, I will probably keep them both tho because there should be advantages in both calibers, the 25 should hit harder, but that 22 will have better secitonal density, something seldon talked of in air gun circles.

so just the barrel swap alone gives another 130-150 fps. seems like the easiest way to up the power. thanks a lot. that’s just what i wanted to know!!

The hammer weight is $16.00
Co2 is supposed to come with the new condor valve but if so why would it be half the price of the valve alone? 😕

Since the CO2 adapter is new, I would assume the valve would be new, as in 2nd gen, but from reading the links posted, seems like more to the valve exchange than I want to tackle. next question then- what sort of increase in velocity/energy would I get if I just changed to an 18- 24″ barrel. Bear in mind, I am just trying to get an EASY increase in power without spending a $300-400 for a tuning job(including parts). Thanks again
I’ve only heard they were 1st gen, though thats not to say you aren’t correct.
pab- i have seen posts on here where they are saying that the co2 adaptors are coming with the new valve..?..
if the valve in your co2 adaptor is a 2nd gen condor valve then all you will need is a hammer spacer and the ability to swap the valve in your tank out with the new condor valve.

..if its the first gen condor valve then it will take some work to make it reliable enough to make the swap worth while (i have made the 1st gen style work quite well)…your third option and i would say your best and easyist is to do the port and polish that is listed in the quick reference…here is that link

many with the 12″ barrel along with myself have seen a 100fps increese in the vel., you can take this on yourself or talk to on of us many machinist and we would be more than happy to do it so you dont F.U.B.A.R. your valve…

i have a .22 talon with the standard barrel and a shroud that’s 13″ overall length and I’m going to try a shorter one to see if the length DOES matter…shorter is more practical when moving about “in the bush”…
