Q:

Scope testing and Eduard of EDgun comparing barrel twists.

I got a chance to test all of my scopes… There was 0 wind and shot off
of a bench with a shooting bag under the front of the gun @ 65yds.
First I did a group with each scope set on the lowest magnification without
moving the Magnification adjuster.
Next I Moved the Magnification adjuster From the lowest setting to the highest
setting and then back to the lowest setting again before each shot to see
if the scope would return to the same zero each time…

All of the scopes shot tighter groups when the magnification adjuster was
not moved before each shot…
I forgot about my Rapid with Leapers 8-32X56 non Illuminated.. It shot
tight groups whether I moved the magnification adjuster or not….

I did a test with the
EDgun Matador with Leapers 8-32X56 Non Illuminated reticle, 5 shots each group
Beeman Falcon RS with Leapers Accushot 8-32X56 Illuminated reticle, 8 shots each group
Bsa Super Ten with Bsa Tactical 8-32X44, 10 shots each group

Here are the results.

I understand what you are saying now, I must be alittle differant cause I always just turn mine all the way up and leave it there. I really have no change in impact this way, I change the ao and probably can’t shoot below 17 yrds., due to focus.

Right… All of my mildots are figured for X10 mag…. My scopes
focus down to 10yds…. I can not see close to mid range targets when I am
hunting if the magnification is on X50 so I set the scopes up on X10 power and use the high power like a spotting scope…

Wow… Great videos and great results Ed….. Thanks for the posting… Is this
the 5.5 or 6.5?

5.5

what is the conclusion so far?

Have not finished the tests yet, due to the lack of the pellets yesterday 🙂

Here are few new videos of Matador shooting. The point of the test was to compare the barrels with different twists:

I zeroed the scope this morning at 65yds and moved the magnification to X32
(full power) and repeated the test….. It would shoot one hole groups for several
shots and then the POI would start shifting as much as 2″ at a time. The FPS across
the chrony was 2.8 – 5 SD….. There is definitely something wrong and the
scope is still the problem as far as I can tell… After 1,500+ rounds That is my
conclusion…

Alot of holes in paper, thanks for your interest, but what does it mean is it that if you adjust the mag. down the point of impact changes?

maw, I have a range card that tells me which mildot to use for a given
distance when the magnification is on X10. For instance, 11yds is mildot
1.5 hold under, and 65yds is mildot 1.3 hold under… Those mildots can
not be used for those distances on any other magnification setting… Any
increase or decrease in magnification will change the POI for those
mildots. I have wooden stakes set every 5yds from 11 – 60yds and then
a Pellet trap at 65yds and one at 80yds. I check my POI for each
distance once in a while and I was finding that the POI was changing. It
is hard to see POI changes shooting targets at closer distances so I
shoot the 65yd pellet trap for testing…. When the scope is on X10, it is
hard to see the POI @ 65yds so, I shoot a few shots then, turn the
magnification up to max to see the point of impact on the target.
Basically, I use the scope as a spotting scope. Then, I turn the
magnification back down to X10 for the next shot. When I turn the
magnification back down to X10 again, the POI for the mildot that
corresponds with a 65yd shot has changed… So to test the scopes
repeatability, I shoot a shot on X10 power then I rotate the magnification
adjuster all the way to full magnification and back to X10 before the next
shot…. Same thing as testing the elevation or windage clicks to see if
they will return to the same zero…. So having said all of that, what you
are seeing on the target is 3 separate tests… For comparison each test
was done by shooting one group moving the adjuster to full power and
back and the other group was shot without moving the power. I hope this
made sense…

Alot of holes in paper, thanks for your interest, but what does it mean is it that if you adjust the mag. down the point of impact changes?
