What ammo should i use in a winchester 190
I inherited a 190 and have never owned a .22 but have shot several im going to use the get rid of ground hogs and other varmints on the farm. Will it cycle subsonics and whats the hotest round u can shoot out of it? Also what the most accurate?

Hell, if you can’t stack the bullets at 50, then use it as a tomato prop…
Thanks for the info guys what kind of accuracy should i expect at say 50 yards. I have a feeling ive been spoiled by my condor.
You should try as many different brands of .22 lr as possible. They are not all the same and different guns shoot different ammo differently. (Did I use that word different enough?) Your gun will likely have a preference for one or two specific types of ammo over the others. Give it a try. 😀
For a little .22lr grab some cci standard velocity. My cz loves them.
Screw hyper velocity. It’s just for making noise and fps bragging. Won’t kill anything better than the slow stuff will. Not to mention it won’t be as accurate at longer ranges.
CCI subsonic ammo left some nasty wounds when I hunted with it. I quit using it because the bullets didn’t seat well in my cz and I really had to ram them in to close the bolt. They shot every time just fine, but I was using way too much effort and time on the bolt for getting a good follow up. But it had a good hollow point and when I hit stuff it left large wounds and dropped them immediately. I use standard velocity now and it doesn’t leave quite the wound but nothing gets away either. Plus the bolt is much easier to work.
Stay subsonic and standard if you want really good results. CCI is some of my favorite, plus most retail stores have it and it is affordable. Match ammo will obviously shoot best, but I have no intention of spending lots of money on .22lr ammo.
Oh, and will it cycle subsonics, you’ll have to try it for yourself. I have seen some that will and some that won’t.

CCI subsonic’s are hard to chamber because they seat into the leed of the rifling in the chamber. Extract a live round and you will see the barrel rifling marks left onto the live round.
They have a longer driving band on their .22 ss hp bullet. Set a CCI .22lr subsonic beside another .22 lr round and you’ll see the differences in length of the driving bands, This doesn’t harm the barrel or accuracy, when used in rifles chambered for hunting. Some say will help accuracy of a loose chamber.
Most semi-auto chambered rifle’s will not feed or cycle this ammo. The bolt fails to close. Also match chambered rifles are too hard to close also.
Closing the bolt on my CZ452 Varmint is abit more difficult than with other rounds, but I know why and they are accurate, with subdued muzzle report.
