Edgun trigger adjustment’s effect on shot string
In all my excitement of plucking the tops off dandelions and ground squirrels, it took me over a month to get around to adjusting the trigger on my gun. Tony sent it with a pretty “safe” setting. It was actually a pretty good two-stage set up. It had a very soft first stage, and a decent pull on the 2nd stage. Good for hunting I reckon, and a lot of guys probably like it that way. I do not. I’ve never cared for two stages. I like one – tiny – stage. Pull the trigger 1/8″ and SNAP – every time at the same place.
So, after a lot of tinkering with those two screws, I get it locked in how I like it (and I really really like it now). I run it over the chrony, just to make sure things didn’t change. And low and behold, things DID change….they got much better.

These two chrony sessions were done on the same day under the exact same conditions.
I’m still not exactly sure what causes the string to tighten up. My best guess is that the trigger is now hitting the valve more consistently than it had before. And I don’t really know exactly how I accomplished this (if that is the reason), other than the fact that I made the trigger more “predictable”.
I’d be interested to hear Ed’s comments if he’s reading. I’d also like to know what others have to say. I can’t be the first person to stumble into this…..

no longer engage…. I actually have to point the muzzle towards the sky to
get it to catch…. I pulled the back screw out completely….. Not sure that
affects the chrony numbers but they are what they are and yours look
good… Your Extreme Spread is only 9 too…. That is amazing….
My trigger(even after working on it) is so shit and stiff I get a sore finger after a good session at the range. 😥 😆 I’ve smoothed the parts, eliminated the over travel but it still has a pull rating measured in tonnes…. 😡
Jus’ wondern’ if anybody got the “new” JSB pellets? And if so, do you see any difference?
My friend just got his new Edgun last week from Tony. Since he was gonna place an order for JSB’s, I jumped in and ordered a bunch. When he dropped them off today, I noticed that there is no warning label on the back of the tins.
No biggie tho’ as I personally shot my best ten shot group today at 62 yards with the “old” pellets 😀 Average 907fps
Maybe they ran outta stickers 😆 Will try and bump up the speed this weekend and run some groups.

Lucked out and caught your post before shooting this afternoon. 😀 I have the “old” pellets so decided to adjust the trigger instead of playing with the fps. Set the trigger pretty light but got nervous when I saw how little sear engagement I had. 😯 Decided to back the adjustment screw out a little. So far so good, no AD 😀 . I might try and turn the screw in a little this weekend and see what happens. The “crispy” trigger has defintely helped me tighten up my groups. ———So far I likey. 😀

Well crapola, I have 6 unopened tins of the new .22 JSB’s. Looks like I will have to do a side by side compairason, after I get my .25 sorted.
I get 12 tins of .25 cal JSBs tomorrow. It would be nice if they are new and improved also!

So, just yesterday I’m going on like a woman with a new purse, talking about how my Edgun likes to fire ’em hot. Then today, I set out a target at 50 yards, and proceed to lay down 1.5″ group after group. WTF?!? Well, I’ll tell you WTF. I know this is going to sound hard to believe, but the NEW JSB pellets will let me fire them fast, and the old ones will not.
I was trying to use up the old ones today. But, I had the new ones with me. I took them out after the old pellets had finished their best shotgun impression. I was worried that my barrel was now “conditioned” to the old pellets. No worries though – it stacked 5of tne new ones in a clover leaf. Hmmm. Tried the old pellets again – 1.5″ group. Back to the new pellets – 3/8″ group.
So, I slowed things down to 880fps, and at this speed they shot equally. The old JSB’s were doing as good as they used to. And the new ones were doing just as well – albeit, NOT as good as they do at 920fps.
So, by now you are asking, “What the hell are you talking about – old pellets and new pellets?”. Well, look on the back of your tin. If it has the new, fancy sticker, you have the “new” pellets.
I also started a thread on the Yellow a few days ago, discussing the fact that I felt there was a difference in overall quality. It seems – at least for my gun – my assumptions were correct.

As you said, “some like it hot” Gonna give it a try—– that is, bump up da powa. Right now I am only shooting 40 shots before filling, so losing 10 shots on a 60 shot string won’t be a big deal. Guess I’m still trying to turn my 22 into a 25 😆
Previously I did have the Edgun set at one stage but figured that Ed designed the gun to have two stages and switched it back. I never thought to run a string over the chrono. Will have to give it a try and compare.
BTW, do you get some kind of commission from JSB pellets? I seem to burn up more pellets after reading one of your posts 😆

I adjusted the rod as well. I think I screwed in clockwise one turn. This would shorten the pull. Adjusting the screws takes a bit of trial and error until you get the hang of things. Basically the front screw is for the 1st stage and the back screw is for the 2nd. However, it isn’t quite that simple, as the two screw somewhat work together to some degree. If the 2nd stage is too heavy, the answer is not to adjust the 2nd screw, but rather the first. Tinker with it, and you’ll see for yourself.

I know that most Edguns have their best accuracy in the high 800’s fps. So, I guess that means mine is very special 😆 . At 880 fps (65 consistent shots) it shoots pretty well – at 910 fps (55 consistent shots) it shoots even better – and at 925 fps (50 consistent shots) it exceeds my expectations. At low(er) speeds, the pellets “slide” to the right on long distance shots. At 920 fps and above, the pellets climb and drop in a vertical line. I do not know why this is. And I do not presume to understand the idiosyncrasies of rifle barrels.
Truth is, I’m actually quite happy with this. It makes for less hold-over at long ranges. Yeah, I lose about 10 shots in the consistent string, but I can live with that.

Question—– are you still playing around with fps on your Edgun? It seems that most find the best balance between 880–887. I have mine set at 907. Works for me but I can only hold a group if it consists of one shot. 😯 Just curious as you shoot lights out with that Edgun of yours 😀

Ted did you only adjust the two screws on the trigger or did you adjust the rod that Ed mentions in his video?
