Does the talon ss come with a spacer between the hammer…
…and the spring? The reason I ask is that I bought a used one that had a 30 gram brass hammer weight inbetween the hammer and spring. I removed this as I felt it was a waste…even with my modified talon valve.
After I removed it and put the stock hammer back in by itself. I actually had to dial up some preload in order to get my pellets moving. On zero to five on the power wheel it only got my pellets moving from 250 to 650 fps.
I managed to get a descent 30 shot string but not with the modified tank. With the stock tank and the TH at .071 and pw: 10 I averaged 870fps with 14.3 gr CP’s with an ES of 25 for a 30 shot count which is fine by me as I am tired of chasing a curve with this particular rifle. 10 more shots for a total of 40 kicked up my ES to 40.
Now for the modified tank, I had a best fps increase of around 80. The only thing I did not like was the ES and SD. Every so often I would drop a shot that would dip down 30 fps from the previous. No matter what TH and PW setting I tried, as well as different Start pressures…It would behave this way consistently. I wonder if this has anything to due with the fact that I used a condor valve spring retainer????
Also, I was able to achieve speeds in the mid 900’s with the stock 47 gram SS hammer. One thing I did notice when I shot it with the added 30 gram brass weight is that it WASTED alot of air.
Every time I mess with our beloved black rifles I rekindle my respect for Tony…cause I’d rather be shooting than tuning, thats for sure!!!! 😡

Both of my frames like the hammer @ 0.975″ diameter on the ends. Between ends it is turned to 0.965″. Nice and easy slide with no wobble. Sear end has a small 45° chamfer…

Hope this is good enough to see. There is a small 45° chamfer on the right end. The diameter is slightly smaller in the middle, compared to the ends.
This is my spare 73 gram. It was used a lot with the .22 before I made a lighter one for it.

No velocity difference as long as the weight didnt change.
Yes, consistency did improve but in my case not that dramatic of a change.
My hammers now are 1 piece brass, no plastic ends.
Almost a year and neither one is giving me any problems whatsoever.
The .25 likes the 73gram, and the .22 likes the 64gram both with a stock condor spring.

Dont make the same mistake I did. The first hammer I made was too heavy and it was on a Friday. I couldnt take it back to the lathe at work until Monday, so I drilled a few holes in it to lighten it.
Dumb fuckin idea. I didnt even think about the sear engagement getting hammered by those holes and I ended up ruining both the hammer and the trigger part.
In defense of the trigger part failing, it was a very used and tired part and I was using a Brad spring at the time.
I just got a Subsonic one piece hammer and it helped my inconsistencies bit time. My stock hammer plastic ends where causing big issues!
RiffRaff funny you should mention that I put off for some time trying a one piece hammer, finally got my lathe I bought rebuilt and made a one piece hammer same weight relativley close to the stock hammer and added spacer weight, I often thought things might work a bit more consistent with a one peice hammer? so you are saying you saw no difference, shot the same with either set up?

This spacer was even longer than the stock condor spacer. Probably three times as long which explains why the spring is fatigued.
The condor spacer weighs around 19 to 20 grams. This brass spacer that the guy who I bought the gun from weighed 30 grams. I wonder if he had a spare condor tank that he was using otherwise he was just wasting air with all that weight not to mention making more hammer slap which would adversely effect accuracy.
That spacer is common on Condors.
When I bought my new Condor valve, AF recommended the spacer to go along with the hammer so I got one. (They said new Condors ship with it installed).
Ive never owned a stock Talon though, so who knows what config they ship in.
I soon started using 1 piece hammers. I never saw any difference between 1 piece and 2 peice as long as combined weight stayed the same.

I suppose I should have put a fresh spring in while I had it apart. I do have a few spares….
Anyway, just got inside from shooting 8 five shot groups at 25 yards and they ranged from 1/4″ to 3/8″ through 40 shots. Not too bad. I think I will call this one done for now.
Nope no spacer.
But the spring may have taken a set from having a spacer on it for so long and that is why you have to crank it up to 10
