Q:

Pellet gun backstops

Has anyone tried the Block archery target for a pellet gun. It would seem like they would absorb a shit load of pellets??

Jeff,

Since you live out of the city, you can just go to homedepot and pickup some big rock and stack them up and a trap and buy a large target set it in the front, will that look better and cleaner?

Thx PB

Now , that will most definitely work! 😉

Cool set up Mam.

Hi Jeff,

Did you fill anything in it? I was going to buy that trap, and decided not to just because the shape of it seem to be hard to fill duct seal in it.

I like the steel box, especially it 1/4 thick and I can just leave this trap outside.

I am not sure if I could get 1 locally, I properly need to get it online. Wood does not last long with outside temperature changes, once filled with duct seal, it’s too heavy to carry 😆 😆 😆

Thanks Jeff.

I have not filled it Don. I live out of the city so sound is not important…
It would be hard to fill with duct seal because the angle of the plate is
very much and would be difficult to make the duct seal secure… One
trap is approximately 20lbs/9kilos

I have 4 of them…. I screw 2 of them together and make one very wide
trap… One trap is not wide enough for my targets…. I only used the
screw that are included with the traps…. Nothing extra to buy…

Hi Jeff,

Those metal traps you mentioned look good, but they’re not good for .25 high power + it loud…..

This is an easy 1 to make here.

It is a loud trap if you do not fill it with anything…. It handles my .22 long
rifle Ruger 10/22 @ 30yds… It will handle a high powered .25cal air gun….
The backing plate is 1/4″ steel at about a 45deg angle…

Electrical Box 3/4″ MDF backing and filled with Monkey Shit

It sits outside year round. Is totally silent and needs no attention at all.

Yes those are really cool. I went thru the whole target trap thing when i first bought the condor.

I have been using make shift back stops for allot of years, Well the condor demanded a different level of back stop.

built this one for out side so targets would not get wet , and the rain would not ruin the box.

I put this rubber mulch in the back behind the duct seal slide in partition, so i can take out the duct seal to shoot the 75 foot pound stuff with the condor and it is still quite to shoot into. I have shot 22 long rifle in it, it work just fine.so i know the condor cant beat it up.

I have since added a thicker Steele plate to the back of the duct seal partition and added another layer of duct seal and it stops the 32g. euijens at 1000 fps. just fine.

They go all the way thru to the Steele but you cant here it hit the Steele because its up in the box and the duct seal in front of the Steele.

I built in recessed like that with the carpet to sund deaden it and so that the smack from the pellet hitting the target is even muffled, it is very quite to shoot into.

I made my own trap similar to the 1 below and used the 1/4 steel plate to support any PCP guns from .25 cal and smaller. I stacked it up to 5″ duck-seal, it’s totally quiet and work well. I forgot to apply wood oil on my box and left it outside, the wood total messed up but still work like a charm 😆 .

It’s cheaper if you just buy the box, unless you enjoy to make 1. If you decide you make your own, you can take the measurement from the site below, that what I did 😆

Remember, to support the .25 cal, you at least put in 5″ duck-seal and thick Metal Backing Plate.

Here is a video about this pellet trap.

Have fun.

This is one of the best broadhead targets made, and .22 condor shoots right thou it.

This however will stop a ton of pellets, i had one that was pretty wore out , and started using it for a pellet trap, and it worked great. Shooting in the same place allot will work its way thru so i put a 2×12 behind it .

Some are full of the synthetic fiber like you put into quilts, and such you can get a big box of it at walmart in the cloth section.

And some are full of what looks like rags. when you get the nylon outer cover wore off it its prety silent. all you hear is the target smack.

It is kind of loud to shoot at when the nylon cover is in good shape.

not .25 cal pellets
