Q:

Ar-15 that is most similar to m16?

Well, shipping off to the army in january and they told me to start working out, running and such to get in shape. I figured if I was doing that I may as well get in shape with the service rifle as well. 🙂

So what is the best (and hopefully most affordable) ar-15 style rifle to mimic the m4 and m16 or whatever I’ll be using? Just looking for something with similar accuracy, trigger pull, sights, etc. I don’t plan on scoring anything less than perfect during qualification, so may as well start practicing now. 😀

I really hate the ar-15, but I figure it can’t hurt to learn. Don’t have much money, but maybe I can scrape up a dollar or two from under the couch.

I’m not sure that I would want them know about my shooting skills??? Could showing off your marksman skills be like volunteering for hazardous duty? Just a thought. 🙄

Don’t know bout the Army, But Air Force made me shoot left handed positions, I shoot right handed, to qualify. So the left hand shooting always hurt my score. I did earn an Expert marksmanship Ribbon.

Good luck Sam 😎

I will tell you exactly what you need to practice with , and that is something with a 10# trigger pull. That and peep sights.

Your not going to be used to either, and that will give you more of a hard time than anything.

How quick are you at picking up a new gun, with a heavy trigger and doing well with it.

Qualifying in the Army is a joke.

You’ll have no problems. I qualified twice a year for a total of 10 times. First time I qualified, I was 38/40… one time I was 39/40…. every other time I was 40/40. I think Expert is 36/40 if I recall correctly.

I was licensed on the M16, M203, M249, and M60… All fun stuff… When in Germany, I had the chance to do the Schuetzen schnur, qualifying with German weapons… lots of fun there.

You need to concentrate more on the PT than the marksmanship.

Almost all will be the same, the trick is to keep them clean, and be consistent on your aiming technique. In this case, use the tip of your nose to touch the charging handle and you’ll be able to get the same sighting distance all the time.

quote SteveinLA:

Give me a break Llama! You are gooing to outshoot most of the people in yor class. Get anything with aperatre sights and practice. That includes a Benjamin 392 with the Williams peep sight. Get a .22lr with aperature sights. Any AR-15 clone with a bad trigger will probably be like what they hand you in basic training. You’re gonna do just fine! 😉

But see, I don’t want to outshoot most of the people in my class.

I want to outshoot everyone by a mile. 😀
