EDDIE- Results for 18" LW on 2500 reg
Hey Eddie, the results are in!!
SET UP-
18″ LW barrel .22
2500psi REG
3000psi Fill
53CUI tank. AF tank is 38CUI
JSB 18.1grain
PW Not a clue!
947,41,47,41,43,44,44,41,37,43,41,38,44,41,40,29,38,39,37,38,39,41,36-now off reg,34,31,35,36,37,37,34,33,34,35,33,35,36,34,36,30,29,34,35,27,21,16
EDIT 23 shots on reg with 19 more gooduns off reg. My onboard gauge is crap, gives me different read outs each time. I shot down to 2200psi from 3000psi fill.
Accuracy at 40 yards is crazy good, to the point I could of written ‘PAB’ with pellets if I wanted. Literally. Absolute pinpoint.
Definately wasting a bit of air, you can hear it. Slow them down a bit to 900-910 should be perfect air usage.

A couple more strings to give you an idea of consistency. Plus a few ‘hunting’ shots, that is a decent wait between shots.

Seems the reg is still letting by a bit with long waits between shot. A 30min wait reduced shot fps to 927. Good enough variation out to 60-70 yards though.
MM drop a oring in there behind top hat and your consistency problem will go away. when the top hat is hitting the brass behind it it causes inconsistency .
ahhhh crap… this is a Condor setup, not a Talon. Also has Tony’s awesome valve in it.
I’m having trouble getting a good consistent velocity at the very low tophat setting needed. Doesn’t seem to like being less than .030 from the valve.
I’ll see if I have a Talon valve and try them again as time allows.

Hello again.
I just did some testing with the 12″ .22 barrel at 2500psi.
I don’t have any 14.3 but here’s what I do have:
JSB 15.8: 920fps
JSB 18.1: 860fps
Kodiak 21: 828fps
JSB 24.5: 765fps
I only did one string with the 18.1 and got 17 shots. YIKES, that sucks. This is too fast to try to push them in the 12″ barrel without being very wasteful.
I’m going to try them at 800 to see what the shot count is.

I looked up my data for the 18 g. Jsb. Condor valve 24” barrel ,pw 4.6 ,2000 psi fill,.080 top hat with .071 oring behind top hat.
so i have the gun turned way down with the 24” barrel
1019.1047.1053.1039.1022.1042 Turned down top hat to .075
953.952.952.958.948.turned pw down to 3.6
931.940.955.949.950.945 turned pw down to 3.0
945.947.951.952. Ending Psi at 1800
What i am getting at is with a 24” barrel i think that it is closer to getting the same fps with 2000 psi out of the big bottle as 2000 psi out of the etac. because it is so much more efficient
So with the shorter barrel’s your chasing the fps by waisting allot of air.and the e tac does not have the volume for it.
Oh yes absolutely PB, stick a 24″ on there and you get much better use of the air. Using the same etacreg on my 24″ .25 I can push 25.4 grain Kings at 980. 30 fps more than the lighter pellets on the 18″ with the same pressure and volume.
I’ve fallen in love with the 18 again though. Much more compact. I’ll use it for lamping the rabbits, I can get to within 20 yards of them at night so I plan to light them up at about 40. Mostly free standing shots so the shorter length and lighter set up is much easier to handle.
But even on a 24″ 2000 from an etacreg will not go as fast as 2000 from a bottle.
Hey Guys,
Pab is right. You’ll probably need a little higher reg pressure than the tank pressure at which you get your best shots. The pressure impulse is shorter and the decline in pressure is faster because of the limited volume of the E-TaCREG. There probably is not a noticeable drop in pressure in the tank from the opening of the valve to the closing of the valve from the full bottle. But as the E-TaCREG reservoir empties, there will be.
This drop in pressure is a benefit since it doesn’t waste as much air after the pellet has left, but does reduce the velocity due to the shorter impulse.
The volume of the regulated chamber would have to be roughly equal to a full bottle to mitigate this effect.
Regards,
Jim
have you tried with the 24” Pab

I know what you are saying PB, I thought the same at the start of this etacreg adventure.
Heres a little comparison I did.
Without the etacreg, using same 18.1 pellets on the 18″ at 2300psi, with condor valve, I was getting 1050. At 2300psi!!!
Using etacreg with condor valve, same 18.1 pellets, same 18″ barrel at 2500psi I get 950ish. The bigger air volume from dipping into the main tank pushes the pellet a little longer, giving higher fps. Also wastes a heck of a lot of air.
but the 12” barrel or 18” it would need allot more air volume for same fps. ???
don’t have all these variables, all i know is with the 24” and condor valve, 14 g. pellets only need around 1800 psi for the 980’s
and i’m not using much air at all, so i think the etac would have plenty of air at 1800 to do the same, but i dont have one yet so ?????????
What Pab tested pretty much tells quite a bit to me I love my 18 inch barrel but from what I can see the 24 seems to be the one for higher fps! that is just what I have been finding out with all my notes and questions and thanks to Pab even a true to life trail shoot! that is why I love TAG I have been helped so many times here I have lost count 😯
Don’t get me wrong what Jim Marimont has in his Etac Reg is fantastic just ask Pab he is set up with one and loves it! I am still sorting some things out and will eventually figure out what I want to do but for now it looks like if I am shooting for 950fps with a high shot count my 18 inch barrel is not going to get there 😯
it should if the volume of air in the e tac reservoir is enough,
so your thinking that the air space in the e tac is not enought to achieve same velocity with same pressure from the big tank.
.
Correct, it is not enough. Any more space in the reservoir and the etacreg would have been too big. Though MM did say something about maybe trying to open up the internals a little more.
???????????????????????????????/

i think that it would , for the lighter pellets , but somewhere around the 21 grain it will start falling short. from what i have been reading with the results.
That is the regulated pressure you would need to keep the set up you already have with your 12” barrel.
Not necessarily PB. Don’t forget, his valve is dipping into a whole tank of air, whereas a reg is a small reservoir of air. 950 at say 2500psi straight from the bottle will no equate to 950 from a 2500psi reg.
What psi are you getting peak velocity at 80.

So what is the good pessure for 24 in. barrel, anyone test that out or should I just guess at 2300psi reg.
