.25 BSA barrel improvements
So I finally had some free time this weekend to work on my gun.
I wanted to improve the accuracy of my barrel mainly
I cut the barrel down to 20″ because it is much more manouverable and compact than 24″
Then I turned from the breech end to just infront of the front buching with the barrel between centres which trued up the barrel OD to the bore, The barrel was out by about 10-15 thousandths, I then turned the breech section to 10mm / 0.3937″ for my big bore valve and breech.
Then was a re-crown, the original looked like it was crowned and then rifled, with the tips of the grooves protruding from the crown like they were squished out when rifled.
So I dialed in the bore until there was no visible run out, then cut an 11 degree target crown and polished it.
So now, with some close fitting STEEL bushings it should be a very accurate barrel.
And here is how it looks in the side cocker frame.
Will be getting a E-tacreg from MM and get hunting 🙂

The barrel had been crowned and THEN rifled, resulting in a rough muzzle?!!!!
WTF!! Is Gamo meddling in that part of the operation too now?
Over 150 years of fine, proud English Gunsmithing has gone. Just like that, gone. We all grew up with BSAs and Webleys, with the occasional German gun thrown in for that ‘Wow’ factor *see ten boys all crowded round the lucky owner shouting, ” Giz a go!!”
Our Webs and BSAs were regularly covered in mud, dropped, exposed to the horrors of intentional dieseling and generally abused as only young boys know how to do.
And despite all that they were still good shooters, we were the scourge of the local wildlife, not to mention sisters Barbie and Sindy Dolls… 😆
My Meteor is still with me, still shoots.
I doubt, judging by the R10 disgrace, you will ever be able to buy a real quality air rifle from them again.

Its kinda wierd, it looked exactly like it was rifled after the crown, with the grooves of the rifling pretruding from the crown, if you put a cotton bud IN there, it would catch on the front, but might have been okay when coming out.
If you put your thumb on the crown and spun the barrel, it was rough enough that it would cut into the first few layers of the skin.
It definatley gave me doubts about accuracy, hence the re-crown.
Also, usually there is a 11 degree crown, and then sometimes a 45-60 degree at the bore to remove any erosion when firing.
All my materials and tools are coming today and as long as I can find the free time, it will be finished ASAP
