Q:

New (to me) Edgun

Hi all,

I recently picked up a used EDgun. It’s a little older model with a little “fat” portion on the end of the barrel. It’s perhaps 2-3″ long.

Anyway, I could not be more pleased with the rifle. It came with the case and a manual written in Russian. I have not shot it over a chrony yet but it’s shooting JSB 15 grain very accurately and flat. I’m zeroed at 18 and crossing the LOS again at 50 or so. According to Chairgun, I’m pushing the pellet at 920 fps, which is cool with me.

My question is, about how many shots per fill are you guys getting with your guns set at or near this power range? What pressure are you refilling at? For some reason I had it in my head to refill at 100 bar but I think that is too low.

This EDgun is an awesome platform. I can’t wait to hunt with it this year.

Thanks Gentlemen.

I get way fewer fliers with 18g. The 16’s have a tendency to stack 4 pellets and then send one 2 MOA off target. I attribute this to the much thinner skirts on the 16’s, making for a more sensitive pellet. The 18’s are just more consistent, so I roll with them – always.

With my 0.22 Mathador I have about 60 shots from 200 to 100 bar.

I use 18 grain pellets.

Very cool. And yes, I did notice that I wasn’t making shots at distance at around 110 bar or so. I’m probably going to leave well enough alone.

Have you seen an appreciable difference in accuracy between the 15 and 18 grain pellets? I’ve got to order some really soon.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul! Welcome!

920 with 16 grainers sounds like it is adjusted the way Ed made it. That would likely be shooing 18’s at 880-890fps.

For hunting purposes, a refill at 100 bar is just fine. But, from about 120 bar to 100 bar your fps was likely dropping from 920 to about 880. Any shots under 50 yards won’t make any difference, but if you’re reaching out, the drop would be noticeable.

With a high power setting, I get 5 shots for every 7-8 bar. With medium power 5 shots every 6-7 bar. With low power, 5 shots for every 6 bar. Sounds like your gun is set to medium power – expect about 65 shots from 200 to 110 bar. Your gun’s sweet spot is like 50 very similar shots from 190-120 bar.
