Latest addition to the stable

Barnes Yukon .62

The gun is making about 735FPE with 567gr slugs. The EOTECH holographic sight turns out to be a fantastic match for the gun. It has multiple aimpoints and with the center dot sighted at 50 yards there are aimpoints that are dead on at 100, 150 and 200 yards. Even with zero magnification, multiple shooters have had no trouble hitting a target at 200 yards.

That thing looks like it came right out of AdventureQuest.

I would be afraid to uncase it and actually use it. Knowing me it would have at least a mark or two by now and a carbon shroud.

You know the old saying…….”If you have to ask, how much, you can’t afford it”. Well I can’t afford it. But I still want to know what something like that costs? I’m guessing it’s in the 2-3K range?

I’d say 10-15k….. 😯

That would be closer today! I bought on the ledger starting years ago and as is typical with Gary, got more than I paid for as his skills increased, design info was gathered and he felt the need to add to the design due to the delay in original delivery date. Some of the extras from what I ordered: .62 instead of .58 caliber, higher flow valve, aluminum-bronze sealing rings for the through bolt sealing vice bias cut o-rings, far more carving detail and amount than ordered, more ergonomic scope mounting (and custom mount for the EOTECH), textured stainless and carving on the spring tube, cheek rest made from elk stag and the inlay work on the rest.

I talk to Gary often as as many know, he is behind on deliveries due to health issues and feels bad about that. When he starts work on a late gun he often contacts the buyer to advise them that they can have certain improvements without charge if they wish. Often, these folks demand exactly what they ordered instead of letting the artist and smith provide the best he can at the time. They get what they paid for at the expense of the better gun they could have had, had they let Gary run free with recent improvements and additional work he would have tossed in! I’m glad I just told him to build what he considered a current Yukon! No way he can take the time to build that gun now for less than 25% more than I paid!

Lama,

I haven’t seen that movie, maybe I ought to watch it now! Regarding holding the gun: it actually holds very naturally. Three fingers rest against the lambs tongue and the thumb rests on the spring tube, it may not look like it but it’s entirely natural and of the ten people who have shot the gun, nobody has needed any coaching. For me it’s even better as the length of pull was fitted to me like custom golf clubs…

Savage,

Sorry but your estimate is low by a factor of about 3. Consider that an FX or rapid starts at about $1600 and is mass produced and uses sub-vendor parts like bottles and barrels, then consider that every part of this gun is made by hand from raw or unfinished materials other than some HSS screws and the o-rings on the cocking handle.

I got it!

I have been trying to figure out what that reminds me of. The completely strange look, almost fake looking. Very pretty engravings, but doesn’t look like it could even be held.

And then it hit me. It looks like something that came out of the movie “wanted” !!! 😆

Speechless… amazed!

Very pretty!

But how in the heck do you hold it? 😕

ABOUT ALL I CAN SAY!

Thanks guys. Sorry 80, I don’t want anyone to have any more reason to see me dead! Yeah Ced, there’s nothing flimsy about this gun!

What can i say? That gun is super nice looking and looks like it built like a tank.

Dad Gone what a gun.
I ordered the terex stock for my Marauder 25, Friday, but the custom gun right there is Top notch. 💡

The proof is in the pudding, there is no gun like a Barnes gun!

Man Jerry that thing is beatutiful! 😯 I would like to petition you to please adopt me as your “red headed stepson” —despite my hair being brown—so you can leave me that in your will. Please, please, please! 😆

Gary’s work reminds me so much of Kenneth Howard’s work (Von Dutch). What a craftsman/Artiste!!!

I’m off to the air show to see some Falcons and Hornets! 😈
