Q:

1 dead edgun

Hi guys,

I was shooting my Matador this afternoon, working absolutely fine for 40 shots.

I was testing the trigger after I worked on making it a little lighter. All of a sudden it would not cock.

I assumed I made the gun too light to cock, nothing unusual but even adding weight would not cure it.

So I take the stock off and remove the entire trigger unit from the tube/action.

The spring guide on the hammer has managed to shear itself off, how? I have no idea 👿

How can I fix this, long term solution is a new part from Ed but I imagine this takes a while to get to me and I sold all my other guns to get this so I want it back up and running very soon.

If I drill the broken bit out of the hinge piece with a drill press and then glue the guide in this new hole will it hold for a while? I imagine a couple of weeks will be good enough…

I’ve had the rifle 5 weeks. I am gutted 😡

Important is what is more easily to fix it??? Broken edgun or leaky cricket. I think leaky cricket is easily to fix it with o-ring changes 😉 than wait 1-2 mount for spare parts…

quote SECoda:

Broken Matadors leaky Crickets – what’s this world coming to? 1st rule of air guns – never own just one. 😀

I wonder, which is more painful, a broken Edgun or a leaky Cricket?

Regulators were sent as well.

[quote=”Ed”]I happens in 90 % if an owner takes the trigger block away and then cock the hammer and push the trigger. Even once is enough. If it is not broken after that it doesn’t mean anything –that is enough to have it damaged and it will be brocken soon.

I sent Tony a lot of spare parts more then a months ago, according to the tracking number the parcel left Russia and never reached USA, we will beging the search this week.

As for this particular case, there are two ways:

1. Write me to e-mail and I will send the spare probe.
2. Take off the piece of the probe, to clean the thread, make a new thread on the probe and put it back with thread tite.

NEVER make a “shoot” when the trigger block is taken off the gun.

Ed – How about on my issue? Can you send me a spare regulator. I have been waiting for my replacement since mid May.

Thanks

This is a common issue since the very first Edguns and I already told Ed about it. On my older Edgun R2.5 I had to weld mine and it is much stronger & never broke again, on my newer R3.5s a friend fired the trigger while it was not connected & broke from the first time.

NEVER cock & shoot your trigger while its not connected, the reason is the hammer is limited in travel when connected & hits the valve, if its not connected than there is no “LIMIT” and it swings all the way to the front with nothing to stop it & it breaks.

The simple fix it adding a limiting henge so it doesn’t move all the way forward or using a much stronger material and having a one peice instead of two.

The Edgun is great in accuracy & effeciancy but I am afraid it needs many “small” improvements mechanically.

Ed

still no excuse for the part failing on more than one gun…if i were ed..id look into the issue…it could be a weak point on the gun and maybe needs to be removed and replaced with a stronger piece.

And until recently I abided by just that rule…. 🙄 😳

I sold two air arms EV2’s to get my matador. I love it to bits, its just as accurate and best of all no one else has one

In a way I’m glad, its failed at a unimportant time rather than half way through a shoot :5:

I’ve got a friend who is going to drill out the sheared part and make me a new rod 😎

It’s a shame this is a semi-common problem, at least its broken now and hasn’t let me down in the middle of a competition or something. 🙂

Hmmmm……..

I feel your pain……..

Should be fixed by ED/Tony immediately.

This is not the first time we have seen problems with this threaded joint. Wasn’t it Tom in Colorado who experienced that his threads had gone ? There’s an image somewhere around page 7 in my comparison thread of his problem that also was posted on the yellow if I’m not mistaken……

Not good this. Have no clue why it happens every now and then.

You may be able to drill out the threaded piece that remains stuck in the joint and try a fix as proposed. I’m not sure it will work for long though, – unless you retap and have another rod made for the purpose………

Good luck and keep us posted please……..

Cheers
Trygve in Oslo 😀

You could drill & thread it also because it’s just a guide for the spring and there shouldn’t be any great loads on it but if you can get hold of a few drops of the loctite from a local workshop it is better than threads because they provide a fracture point and therefore more likely to break again

LOL, if this happened to one of My Evanix Pups all Hell would break lose, “Dang those poor Quality Bullpups !!!!! ” 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Damn that sucks…I’d say drill press the broken piece out and use jb weld 2 part apoxy and let it dry…then put some more around the already dried parts as a second layer of protection, and I don’t see that thing ever snapping in that place again…obviously you’d be requesting a new part from Ed so this would be a temporary fix

Drill carefully and get some Loctite 638 or equivalent and I’m sure it will hold a loooong time.
