Q:

12" – 18" barrel change advice.

I have a TT talon ss in .22 with a 12″ barrel and 6″ shroud. I want to drop in 18″ – .22 barrel for some additional range. Any recommendations on where to get the barrel, valve / hammer mods, anything else? I have read everything on this web page, so I am starting to figure things out. But at this point I am a bit overwhelmed.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

If you want to get rid of that 12″ barrel, send me a message please.

Strietwise,

Here’s another good trick. Put in a hammer weight from a Condor. You’ll be able to dial back your power wheel to 2 and still be shooting in the 900+ fps range. Dialing back the spring pre-load will significantly reduce your trigger pull weight. The lighter trigger is awesome.

Mrnewbie, WalkonKing, Wolfeman,

Thanks for the advice. I did what you suggested and I am real pleased with this results. I am posting what I found out for others to consider.

The 18″ barrel added about 96 fps, improved accuracy and added range. The extra FPS really helps for those 70 + yard shots and with the TT 6″ shroud it was just as quiet as the 12″ barrel..

If you are thinking of switching from a 12″ to a 18″ barrel here are some things to consider.
1) the barrel outside diameter is bigger for the 18″ so if you have a vented bushing on your 12″ you will need a new one. I ordered one from TT and the replacement was so polished and clean it looked like a piece of jewelry.
2) you will need to polish the stem of your new barrel. 600 gr sandpaper worked just fine and I did a final polish with a polishing wheel. If you order it from TT he will polish it to a mirror finish for you.
3) replacing the barrel was child’s play. Just remember to remove the power selector screw first and be gentle. It screws into a plastic disk. Remove the front stock screw and the 4 grub screws holding the barrel. Note that 2 of the grub screws are longer and they belong on the bottom. The shorter ones go on the side.
4) the 18″ barrel is heavier than the 12″. No big deal but it is noticeable.

That is it. A nice upgrade for the price. Thanks for the advice

Strietwise,

I did exactly what you’re asking about. I went from a 12″ .22 cal barrel to an 18″ one. Without any other adjustments, my FPS went from the 830’s up to 920. Accuracy increased as well. 920 seems to be the sweet spot for medium weight .22 cal pellets. As you get higher FPS numbers the pellets have a tendency to start wobbling and accuracy decreases. I bought the barrel from PyramydAir. They have great customer service, good prices and fast shipping.

Hope this helps. 😀

I went from a 12″ to an 16″ and the power and accuracy was a welcome upgrade.

I got mine from Talon Tunes. He will hand craft the barrel for you. You can also get a stock 18″ barrel from him as well.

Advice..

Click on TT banner on top of page, and get an 18″ barrel.
Or, see if any are in the for sale section.

Install in gun, and shoot it!

You will Auto-magically pick up 60 to 90fps just because of the longer barrel. If thats not enough, then worry about the hammer weight, high flow valve..ect
