Q:

12" .25 barrel Yes or No?

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and to the Talon SS. It has not taken long to fall in love with it!!! I made my purchase a couple months back and have since purchased several barrels and components to convert to condor power. The flexibility of this rifle is endless. I am looking at another barrel in .25 caliber, a 12″. I realize that it may not be a real efficient, but I like the idea of short and light. Do any of you have a short .25 barrel or any wisdom to give in regards to its performance?

Talon/Talon SS

I think when I get my blank Im going to cut it just shy of the end cap, around 18 inches. That way I can get max velocity and still keep it in the shroud if I want. When I want to go silent I will put on a shroud. I hope to get the best of both worlds that way.

Can’t you then just get a AF 18″ barrel and pop er in? Or is the blank a better barrel worth machining ect

EDIT: oops.. guess you were talking about a .25..?

Not a .25, but just finished making a 16 1/3″ barrel for an SS. Can forget the .3″ if you like, it’s just how this one ended up and I didn’t see any reason to re-machine to an even number. With just a 3 1/2″ end cap, and the old 12″ “baffles” jacked forward by a spacer, it worked out just about as quiet and about 15% more energy at the same power settings.

I love my 16″ custom TT barrel for my SS. I put a TT shroud on it and it is the same length as my AA 410 Classic. It spits out CP’s at 950’s and Kodiaks at 850’s.

I think this is actually the way Airforce should sell the gun.

sounds like a plan, i would keep it 1″ into the frame…just to get a little sound reduction….

That is what I wanted to hear. Sounds like the energy is still respectable with a shorter barrel. I sold my .25 patriot to help fund my Talon purchase. I really enjoyed the power of the .25 but did not enjoy the cocking effort or scope crushing recoil. Sounds like the options truly are limitless for my new setup. Thanks for the input!

You thought your Patriot had power???? :):)
This thing in .25 will likely double to triple your Patriot.
I can get 130fpe out of my 24″ .25

Walter….

That’s insane! But I like it, show some pictures.

you could compromise, and make it a 14″, still keeping it in the frame, but not much space for a pickle, but even a little room in the frame to catch the initial blast will lower the volume of the shot, while not extending the frame.

.25 rocks !

55 fpe is great power….how many shots ?

Hello and welcome to our forum 🙂

If it was me I would make the barrel the length of your frame tube or just short of that if you wish it to be the shroud.
That would give the best compromise between length and handiness.

If you are covering it up anyway the Lothar Walther barrels are good (in the white not blued) and a really nice barrel is the HW from Tim Mac1.

Good luck with your .25!
Walter…..

If you want more power and accuracy, i would do what this guys said

Yea I have a .25, 12 inch barrel Condor and she is a great shooter and the above is correct as she is shooting Kodiaks at 55 fpe..The gun was originally a Tony Tune gun.

IIRC, dads 12″ .25 is doing 55 FPE.

dadwilson has one pm him.
