Q:

170 Shots at 13 FPE with .22 Cricket!

Having lowered down the power of my .22 Cricket compact to 13 FPE, I am able to shoot over 12 mags of JSB 15.9-grainers! :suprisedn: I am able to get this much shots by adjusting the regulator’s overall length (end-to-end) to 52.05 mm. The regulator’s stock setting was 53.06. To ensure air efficiency, I swapped out the FAC hammer spring to the low-powered one that originally came with the gun. When testing both springs, both of them were able to shoot the pellets at 610-619 FPS. However, the FAC spring wasn’t consistent in air-usage as I believe it gulps the entire available air in the regulated air chamber in one firing cycle. The low-powered spring is able to meter out the regulated air much more efficiently while still being able to launch the pellets at the same 610-619 FPS range. I should mention that I’m using the hammer-spring tension adjustment knob I got from Steve at WWAG as it is able to screw in deeper and compress the spring more than the stock version. This is due to the WWAG HST adjustment knob having a protrusion after the threads as opposed to the stock cap having a recessed slot to house the spring.

I stopped at 174 shots and the chrono registered 603 FPS. The air pressure was 65 BAR indicated on the airtube gauge (which equates to 75 BAR on my SCBA gauge). The beginning starting pressure is 210 BAR on gun gauge (and 220 BAR on SCBA gauge). I’m sure that if I fill to 230 or 240 BAR I’d get even more shots! Incredible!

I’ve decided to turn the power down on my Cricket as I’ve been backyard shooting a lot, and my backyard limits me to a range of 28 yards. At that distance, the 15.9 JSBs virtually stack themselves on top of the other if I do my part. Using Chairgun, I’ve set my far zero to 27 yards. With all things accounted for, and deciding on a quarter-inch sized target, the killzone is from 15.5 yards to 29 yards (with a scope height of 2.43″) with practically close to nonexistent holdover/holdunder. I think that’s pretty cool.

Donny, I see your stepping up in the world from your 1st ones….

Dang Donny! :suprisedn: I may have to PM you in the future to make me some goodies, and they don’t necessarily have to pertain to air rifles! 😀

Sharp I’ll PM you so we don’t hijack spinj’s thread 🙂

Damn Donny thats awesome! When did you get that 3D printer and what kind do you have?

Thank you spinj, it’s an addiction that I have to make my guns backyard friendly. Even though I am already there, I am always looking for ways to make them better. Recently purchased a 3D printer and it is amazing what you can do with these. The plastic is very hard once cooled down. You can make an object hollow with 0% infill or you can make it really hard with 100% infill. It’s sort of like a CNC machine. Once you have it calibrated and measurements down, you can repeatedly make the same objects with great accuracy.

Some of the stuff I am working on:

When I first got it, I printed the T800 (Terminator) for shits and giggles and it came out great!

quote eelect:

It don’t take much much to penetrate the feathered creatures. Last Saturday I shot a starling at about 40 yards. There was a silo behind it about 100 yards off and I heard pellet hit the silo after it penetrated the bird. So at 32 fpe there is a lot of power there and still plenty with your setup at 40 yards. It don’t take much. Back in the day I had a salvania 630 and would take blackbirds and pigeons with no problem. That was in .177 even. So I always keep reminding me That we used to have lots of power at 630 fps with 8 g pellets

You are correct, eelect. At 13 FPE at the muzzle, the 15.9-grainers are still able to penetrate up to .35″ of a wooden dowel I shot at 27 yards! That sure is more than enough to put the hurtin’ on pigeons!

Donny, I’ve been reading about how effective your LDCs are. I think it’s amazing how your LDCs can deaden the sound of a 30 FPE airgun to a point where all you hear is the hammer impact as stated by some posters using your product.

GKU, it is very quiet. All I hear is a “tink” sound. The spring is the low-powered spring that originally came with the gun. The number of coils and length of the spring that comes in the box may differ from one person’s Cricket box to another’s. Also, please bear in mind that I had to adjust the spring tension until I was able to get 13 FPE. I haven’t tried using the spring with the stock plastic cap. If you don’t have the WWAG HST adjustment knob, you can certainly try using the stock adjustment cap by screwing it in until you get to 13 FPE. However, you must adjust the regulator first until you get to 13 FPE. The HST adjustment knob is to fine tune the velocity.

I am in the same boat as you and lowered my fps to around 600 before and it was really fun shooting. Hammer slap is barely there. If you put an LDC on it, it’s even better. The sound of the one hand clap.

But because I make shrouds and LDC for this gun, I have to keep the fps up in the 900’s to make sure the LDC is effective.

That’s very cool work spinj !

It must be very quiet shooter as well.

Do you have the spec for the springs ?
Wire dia ?
Length ?
# of coils ?

Don’t need you to remove it just if you have I would like to know, thanks.

Even if I were to increase the shooting distance to 40 yards with the 15.9 gr JSBs, they would still be putting out 10 FPE according to Chairgun. That is more than enough to kill those damn pigeons that have been annoying me lately. 😡

Wow. That’s something I was considering to do instead of buying a .177 cricket. You got something going for you man
