.177 cal condor to .22 or .25 conversion
Hi,
I am a new Pcp airgun user and my first PCP airgun is a condor .177 cal. I wanted to convert it to .22 or .25 cal using the same tank and valve which is in the .177 cal gun, would be happy with 1000 Fps. The problem with me is I live in northeast India and we are allowed to import only .177 cal so i bought one and I will be buying a .22 cal 18″ LW barrel from a friend but I am not sure if it will function like i need. I would like to get around 40 – 50 fpe coz my farm is terrorised by varmints. My state don’t have any restrictions and can even hunt big birds. pls help me tune my gun.

Contact Air Force and they will sell you a new valve or you can talk to some of the guys here and they can set you up with a custom valve.

It’s a well done instructional video well worth watching for anyone wanting to wrench on an AF rifle.
The actual point of this video is the installation of a Talon Tunes Tank Adapter. But it shows you the removal of the valve.

wow! that sounds tricky. I hope it won’t damage the tank as it is a spin lock tank with the pressure gauge. Hey I don’t know where to get the valve i just saw only the valve stem.

The hardest part, is getting the old valve body out of the bottle. They use some sort of sealer. I used a heat gun , but a light dose from a propayne tourch works just as well. You need to fashon a wrench that will fit the two small slots in the valve to remove it from the valve body. I used an old socket that was the right size, and ground away everything on the opening but two small protrusions that could fit the two small slots in the face of the valve.
You will want to wrap your bottle in something like a thick magazine or something thick and protective and put it in a vice just snugged up., Use a large set of channel locks or somthing similar to turn the balve body out of the bottle. I use thick leather from my Knife shop to protect the valve body from getting mared. They make a wrench for this called a spanner. Good luck finding one though. Sears sells an adjustable one, but it’s over 40 bucks. 👿 And don’t listen to the Brit’s, as they call ALL adjustable wrenches spaners. 😆

AF sends the spring with the new valve, which is larger in dia. along with a larger spring retaining nut. It’s all included in the kit.

Get a heavy hammer spring
AF ships condor valves for .177 guns with a stiffer return spring in the valve. This keeps the tank from sticking open and dumping all of your air.
This valve wont produce good power in larger calibers without speeding up the hammer strike considerably, and usually just causes other bad things to happen.
You can either change the spring if your’e able, or get a new valve setup for larger calibers. Either way, you gotta take the valve out of the bottle so I would try getting a softer return spring.

knifemaker. Thanks for the reply however I’ m confuse at what you said ” condor valve ” does the condor .177 don’t come with that valve? well I hope just the valve change would do the conversion to .22 cal or .25 cal at the speed you mentioned.
You may want to order a Condor valve to get the kind of FPS you want. It just screws into the tank. but 1000 fps is a little too fast for top accuracy. You can’t miss fast enough to win in a gun fight! Even against varmints. 😆 Pellets tend to go un-stable much over 900 fps. I always try to tune to about 880 fps for top accuracy with most goo pellets. Your should do very well with JSB’s in .22! 😉
