.177 Trajectory…
Okay so this just maybe Chairgun not handling the situation thing. But I always hear people talking about the flat trajectory of the .177 caliber pellets. But with everything being equal the trajectory is the same as .22. According to chairgun. What am I missing?

If you take a .177 Condor and run it just under say 1000 fps and then take a .22 and run it just under 1000 fps the .22 wins every time because the larger heavier pellet retains energy longer.
Correct, assuming they have the same shape and the 22 is heavier. The BC indicates this also. It took me the longest time to realize BC is a real world measurement – not a theoretical number.
That is the way I understand it.

Seems trajectory is tied to fps and bc of the pellet more than the caliber of the pellet(size of the pellet would effect the BC directly though). Again at least as chairgun is involved.
Put the same numbers for everything and change just the caliber. Chairgun will offer you the same zero. Your opbz will be the same for .177, .22 and .25 when pushed to the same speed if the pellets have about the same BC.
And actually I’m seeing it as .177 would not be flatter as it would fall off before the .22 and .25 pushed at the same speed because it would have a lesser BC. The highest bc pellet would have the flattest trajectory if the MV is the same. .177 is not special in this case. Only special in the case of 12fpe limit.
177 is flatter because it’s lighter, 22 travels further with more accuracy but needs more juice to accelerate it.
If you’re limited on power (springer, CO2, UK) then go 177… and it’s cheaper.
If you want power and range, 22 with a Condor 😉 The 25 owners are growing in number, interesting to compare 22 to 25.

.177 is only an advantage in sub 12fpe power range. It gives a flater traj’ and makes shooting easier. You guys over there don’t even need to think about it unless you looking for a low power plinker.

I had recently picked up the CZ200s when it was on sale and have been toying with the .177 stuff in chairgun and was like wait a second. .177 isn’t flatter! It was the 12fpe realm I was missing. The flattest you can get under 12fpe would be with a .177. The trajectory is no different (more or less) for a .177 pellet at 800fps compared to the trajectory of a .22 pellet of the same weight at 800 fps. According to chairgun of course.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that the .177 calibre was introduced to increase fps for a given input. In countries where fpe is limited, this gives the .177 a place. With no limits to power I can see no use for .177 calibre.
Not true Pab…. 177 in a TSS gives 18fpe.. a 22 in the same barrel seems to provide 23-25fpe… So 22 gives more power at a lower fps than 177. BUT compared to a UK 177 the US 22 should have a similar trajectory.

ssshooter’s reply was very accurate..IMO..Too many things that have to be figured into the equation In the BIG PICTURE, .177 is flatter, and there are exceptions to EVERY rule 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 SO there you have it….
All things being equal I will take a .22 any day.
If your gun is marginal in the power range sometimes the .177 pays off.
Ever look at a new gun and they say :
.177 750 fps
.22 625 fps?
In this choice the .177 is probably the better choice for flat shooting.
I buy pcp guns with as much power as I can get and then I say bigger is always better.
I have a .25 marauder that I have been tuning to get some more fps so that .25 reaches out there!
There are so many factors that influence external ballistics. Generally the heavier the pellet the greater the BC and better trajectory.
BUT
22 require more energy to get the same fps as a 177… so 177 earns the reputation as being a flat shooter because it’s easier to accelerate.
SO
Are you shooting a springer, a PCP, or a CO2 gun? what range are you interested in? and what are you wanting to kill? (paper, bird, rat, raccoon, coyote).
Once you have those answers we can help.
