Q:

1st shot blues

My gun likes to throw the 1st shot off target, the following shots are lets say threading the needle. Anyone else have this issue?

Well, after all these years, I finally found a cure. For mine at least. I fully mirrow polished the valve stem and instead of silicon, I used a teflon bearing clear grease from Super Lubes. Works just fine!!! 😉 😀

i hate when that happens on first shot never can tell where its going.

I’m afraid the barrel isn’t the issue here. It is wildly different velocity on the first shot that is the problem. My bbl. is fully hand lapped, and damed near a mirror polish inside. It has made no difference what so ever since day one. I’ve been shooting this gun for 8 years now, and with multiple barrels. Always the same results. And just about ever body experiences the same results.

It’s an Air force design issue. It’s been there from day one.

I can’t say for sure this will help but you might give it a try. Get a nylon cleaning brush for the barrel. Put your favorite cleaning liquid on the brush and run it through the barrel 10 times. Run dry patches until they come out clean. Repeat this process until the patches are clean from the first one through. I’ve had it take as much as two hours of repeating this process to get a ‘new’ barrel clean, ( some european manufacturers use a very sticky grease to prevent rusting of the barrel during the long boat ride to the U.S.)
There are varying theories as to why the first round is a flyer but this cleaning method seems to work most of the time. You don’t have to do it again until the problem recurs.

I always get a low first shot. doesn’t mater if a refill or not. Just picking up the gun and going Pu the door, it will alway shoot low first shot.

Very frustrating, as it is often used for pest in the yard, and the first shot taken is important!

A good interior frame clean usually takes care of this for a short while. I suspect it is either the hammer dragging, or the top hat stem sticking from the silicone grease getting stiff.

Yes it can be frustrating, this gun is for varmints gunning also.

We will see how it goes when the weather warms up. This gun stays in an unheated basement.

She does pretty good I must say.

What Walter said.

😉

You got it. A creeping reg is a leaker and so it allows the pressure to creep upwards when not in use.
Hard to say for sure but most likely the shot should be higher then settle into grouping once the reg is back as it should be.

What silicone lub? 😕

I use plumbers silicone for the breech orings.

Dry fire the first one. Bet your reg is creeping up.
Try the dry fire and then shoot for grouping…..

When you say creeping up I will assume it means my 1400PSI turns into 1500 PSI. Am I correct with this assumption? If this is the case would the 1500 shoot higher or lower than the 1400?

All the time. I am running a reg tank at 1400PSI with the CO2 adaptor.
Top hat .010″ off the breech face, PW5,6, 7.9 Crosmans or 8.4 JSB’s. Me thinks it might be temperture related with the thick silicone lube. But me not know.

Is this after a fill or all the time?
