1st shot LOW velocity after fill?
It seems a lot of us have the problem of the 1st shot being noticeably lower in velocity than than what would be expected for the chronographed string.
It’s been said that the valve doesn’t seat properly when the pump pressure release is opened before unscrewing the tank.
Some just throw out the low reading and that gives a truer representation of the psi curve we are tuning for.
I’m thinking that a one shot DRY FIRING would slam the valve hard against the seat and may eliminate the problem and eliminate waisting of a pellet and chrono reading.
Has anyone tried this? What do you think would be the result of the ONE SHOT DRY FIRING AFTER A FILL?

Not too sure on the exact modle but it is not the high flow.
I think it is an old pre-antitamper and has the plastic not brass valve spring retaining bolt.
I get anything from 850-945 on the first shot but the next 5 shots are between 940-930fps. I don’t care to workout why it’s just as easy to let one off.
I do these shots at home cos I ain’t gonna give my targets a warning 😯

I go slightly over the fill that works for me and let out 2 shots to settle it down.

I fill to about 2550 and know that my first shot is also usable?! 😕 😆
If the first shot is always way too low, put 50 psi less on the fill. I can’t imagine throwing away my first shot…..
I always dry fire a couple times after a fill, and also a couple times before shooting if the gun has been sitting for an extended period.
i always let off two dry shots to settle it down. i think it is reccommended for all datstate air rifles but dont hold me to that.

Thanks for the input fellows. Anyone else with info about other rifle recommendations for settling down the valve please chime in. The more we compare the more we will be sure we have the best thing going for our rifle.
I have the standard Condor Hi-flo valve so I’m leaning towards a slight overfill of maybe 25-50 psi past the velocity I want to start my curve at and dry firing 1-2 shots to get everything on the mark. My valve is currently using an average of 23-24 psi per shot and varies slightly with adjustments.
It’s been below 20 degress F the past couple of days and Mom’s b-day flowers have given me a terrible sinus problem so I’m temporarily down for the count, but not out!
