22 cal air gun bullets?
Ok, I’m slowly learning about the the 257 cast bullets people are using for air guns but was wondering if anyone has played around with 22 cal versions. I only ask cause it looks like those 257 are pretty heavy and it takes a lot of air to make those thing fly fast enough. It seams Ike the 40 grain range of the 22 cal would be a good place to play around as well. Is this something being done? I’ve done some searching but it ends up coming up with pb stuff for the most part. It seams like there would be a whole bunch of “of the shelf ” bullet options seams like that would be a little easier to get started with if the barrels are available.

Lots of info in OtherGuns. The .22 is too small in dia. to have enough base to allow enough air to really push it. The .257 is much more effecient and has a much better BC. Not much avaliable off the shelf. A s we can’t use jacketed bullets. There are a few factory offeings in the UK and Europe, but not much here.

I tried studying it too, It seem it has been tried a bit in the past and there is unique issues to the .22 -vs- .25, one being casting the small diameter bullets and getting the mold to fill. I hope Tedd and Mike chime in, they are way ahead of us on this…as well as others. Search Tofasfou, he’s a leader in the effort out west.

You are going to need a very long barrel to produce what the legends locally have achieved. Several of our forum members have stretched the legs of this caliber and small changes here and there are critical. It’s a topic all by itself, with lots to learn.
