Q:

.22 Cricket barrel issue

My cricket has always been a decent gun but does suffer from wondering POI. I assumed it was the changing pressure in the tank when shooting down from full. I decided to send it to Ernest and have him tune it and see if he could fix the POI issue. What Ernest discovered that the choke on my barrel is very tight, as tight as he has ever seen from a cricket, and that could be the POI issue. (Mine is an early version with the old rainbow pressure gage.) Anyway, Ernest is right. If you push a pellet down the barrel, it really sticks at the choke and then comes out really grooved from the rifling. Any idea of how to remedy a tight choke. I’m afraid if I try to polish it I will only screw it up. I might try to find a gunsmith to see if they have any tricks, but I just though I’d throw this out there to see if any of you have a solution.

Thanks,

Don

I paid 125 € for a .25 barrel some 8 months ago. That was a LW since .25’s i’ve had were with LW’s although some say US Crickets are barreled by CZ.. ?? A CZ barrel on both .177 & .22 should actually be less than that.

Ville I have asked due to I bought couple of years ago (4 years) barrel for my weihrauch HW100. It was from Germany I have paid 100€ I guess..

Which is about $157 USD, so about the same price. I figured it was going to cost me a lot more than that.

I´m curious how much will cost new barrel. Do you have warranty card from cricket ?

These barrels are cheap – at least over here. Around 125 Euro for one.

So I just talked to a gunsmith, one with a great reputation, and he said he would just screw it up if he tried to fix the choke. Then I called Wild West and talked to Charlie and he is shipping out a new Barrel to me tomorrow. Cost is $150 + Shipping.

I can get over how good the service is at Wild West. They helped me out in the early days when a regulator went south, even though I didn’t buy the gun from them. Great customer service!

Let us know what you end up doing and how much a new barrel costs. I bought my cricket from the same asshole in Florida.

Hey Octavious,

No warrantee since the guy I bought it from isn’t around anymore. Totally spacing on his name, but he use to call his business the Official US Cricket dealer, or something. I bought the gun just about the time Wild West started caring crickets.

Still haven’t getting a price from WWAG but I’ll let everyone know what I end up doing.

It’s really not Ernest’s problem. He did what he could, but the issue isn’t one that he is prepared to fix. I didn’t get the gun from Wild West, but bought it from the original guy down in Florida. I do plan to ask Wild West if I can buy a new barrel from them.

Can you not just let Ernest sort the gun out for you? Would have thought it would be cheaper than getting it back and then having to send it back to get a tune again?
