.22 Kodiaks for Edgun?
I got my Long Edgun a while back and been shooting 18gr JSB through it and it, as you all know, has fantastic accuracy. But I also have a lot of .22 Kodiaks and I just wonder if anyone of you guys tried them in your Edgun and how accurate are they? It is dark to do anything accuracy wise tonight but I shot 105shots through chrony tonight and it gave me 850fps ave velocity. Not bad I thought but hopefully tomorrow I’ll try the accuracy deparment. I am just impatient and would like to know if anybody had good results with them already?

I’m a bit late to the conversation, but for the sake of data collection, you can count me among those who get inferior accuracy with Kodiaks when compared to JSB’s. I get around 1″ groups at 50 yards. The POI was close. Kodiaks were by far the best pellet in my .22 Marauder – which, also shot about 1″ groups at 50 yards. I think the Kodiak pellet is very “forgiving” because of it’s thick skirt and seemingly harder lead alloy. They don’t get ripped up by bad inleades and choppy crowns as much as other pellets.
But, their durability also prevents them from fully engaging with the rifling of a quality barrel. Couple this fact with further evidence that “weight forward” pellets fly truer at long range, and the Kodiak winds up having an accuracy “glass ceiling”. It’s the pellet that works in almost every barrel – works best in roughly-cut barrels – but comes up short in high quality barrels.
I think it would take a regulator adjustment to get the Kodiaks up that fast…
Yep. When I got my .25 Matador, it was set to shoot the Einjin 35.8 grain pellet at 917, the Kodiak at 984 and the JSB 25.4s at 1042.
None of the pellets shot really good at those speeds but, the JSB was still the most accurate. As I started turning the gun down, I gave up on the Einjins pretty quick. At each lower speed, I would try the Kodiaks and JSBs. The JSBs always shot better. I ended up setting the gun to shoot the JSB at 950. The Kodiaks were shooting around 900 IIRC.
I kept all of the groups and the JSBs shooting at 950 beat the Kodiaks at 950.
Ed had LW make the .25 barrels to his specs and he specified the JSBs.
That could be a good idea but I love the fact that my Edgun gives me 100+ shots with JSB and if I turn it up I’ll most likely end up with much less shots. But then again it is good to try.
Any one try and turn the gun up and shoot them faster and see if they tighten up. they like the 980’s in my condor allot better than the 880’s. ?????????????????
Well, needless to say but my Edgun didn’t shoot them well either today.
In the beginning three pellets hit almost in the same place and after that it started to sprey them. I shot 45yard groups and they were like 1.5 inch where JSB shot less then one inch groups. I shot several groups and in the begining it seems to be promising but then it went all over. But it would be cool if they worked. Sad, sad indeed.
Maybe I am just bad shot, I need more practice,I guess.
Tonaka, I have the same gun as you long .22 I shoot 1″ groups or less with jsb 18.1 at 127 yds. 5″ groups with the Kodiaks at the same yds. My gun hates them!
I have shot some JSBs that had a pretty bent up skirt, just to see how they shot. I couldn’t see a large poi change. I have read that the air blast will push the skirt out and force it into the rifling. That being said, I don’t use the dinged up ones when trying for good groups.
On the Kodiak, I think that the thicker skirt doesn’t allow it to “cut” into the rifling as much. I also think that the Kodiak’s more pointy head shape and the thicker skirt make it less accurate than the JSB Exact King.
Alright then! I’ll let you guys know how they’ll do in my Edgun! It would be cool if they do well cuz they give slightly more fpe and just like that they are much harder not as easy to bend their skirts.

Ed sets every one of the Matadors up to shoot the JSBs. I am interested in hearing how your Matador likes them. I think that most of the Matador owners have tried them and went back to JSBs.

Kodiak is not as good as JSB base on my tests results, but you can try it yourself to see how that goes. Each gun build slightly different, maybe yours does good with both pellets 😆
Well, tomorrow I’m gonna find that out for myself, if I’ll have a time.
I am a guy who loves JSB’s, Kodiaks are a good pellet, I wouldn’t know on an Edgun, but my opinion is they should shoot very good.

Ted they are fps sensitive for best results i think. they were a 1/2” to 3/4” pellets for me at low 900’s and in the 800’s, but when i went to changing the condor around to find the fps that they might shoot the best ,they really shrank down in the 980’s to 1000 fps area, 1/4” to 3/8”.all at 50’s .
The barrel in the ed gun is the same as the one in the condor , is it not.
