Q:

22 versus 25 cal – we will see

Some of you might recall me asking about the relative merits of 25 versus 22 cal, noise differences, range and such like. I have taken the plunge and today ordered a 24 inch Lothar Walther barrel in 25 cal. I currently have a 24 inch Lothar barrel in 22 cal on the gun so I will be able to benchmark accuracy, noise and power and will share my findings in due course. Its another small step towards having a proper TalonDor. But I have to say the price of 25 cal pellets stings me. Of course it all depends what you want for your gun, there isn’t a “best calibre” only what is best for you. I’m learning that goes for everything in Airforce guns.

Hi Birdman thanks for that. I have some Baracuda Hunter Extreme on order so that’s ideal! I agree with you. Judging from what they do to the thick plank of wood on the promo video, I think they are going to stop most pests in their tracks even at long range. I’ve also ordered some 32 grain Eunjins and some 31 grain Baracudas (these were the best price of the three). Oh and some JSBs. :fishinghole:

Christyboy , when it comes to what you really want in caliber for your shooting purpose , only you can be the judge of what you want pertaining to the
type of shooting you wish to do . Wither it is for paper and distance or real kill effective distance for pests . Both have their rightful place . I have a
Talon SS that I started out with in .22 cal. for shooting crows and was able to kill a cote at 9 yds. in my back yard with Crow Magums . I up graded it
to a .25 cal. with Tony’s barrel . I can still shoot as far as I did when it was .22 cal using a smaller grain .25 cal . pellet but I would rather be able to
shoot a large .25 cal. like EJ’s 43.2 gr and EJ’s 35.8 gr at zero to 25 yards for max killing power because I rather kill pest then paper .I only use paper
as a distance guide . Any pest beyound 25 yds. I use Baracuda Hunter Extreme 28.40 gr out to 40 yds . I never had to shoot pass 40 yds. to kill anything
as yet and the 28.40 gr does the job perfectly . If I end up having to shoot at a longer distance then I’ll chalk it up to fun in finding the right grain pellet
to use . Still it is nice to have the option of being able to change out my gun back to a .22 cal. if I choose to do so .
