.25 crowmagnums
am i the only one who likes this pellet ?
in my cRapid set around 50 fpe .25
i find its accurate enough for hunting within say 50y…i have nudged crows etc off their perch at 75-100y its like 1 in 10…i know this rate would be much better with jsb or kodiaks, but as my shooting is usually within 30 yards thats the pellet the mags are loaded up with
but what i like is that its always devastating to what ever i shoot !
i like to refer to it as a cookie cutter….when a squirrel is hit it cuts a round hole…that does not close up but stays gaping open
when i shoot a diabolo pellet its often i see the hole in the critter is closed up, its like the pellet just expanded the skin to get through and then the skin contracts again…
but the crowmagnum, big entry hole…expansion is mostly around .310″, i have found several pellets lying at the base of the tree where i shoot the critters out of…it is as if the pellet just barely made it trough and then dropped to the ground right there and then

I love the CM…what a great pellet! I too shoot the .25 out of my Marauder at 40+ ft lbs. Of course I shoot the rats at the ridicously close range of just 24 feet. I also score the hollow point cavity twice, 90 degrees to each other with a thin blade like a swiss army knife, or single edged razor blade. They explode the critters and only penetrate into my cedar faced backstop about 3/8″. They cause massive trauma when used for a heart/lung shot. When the critters line up properly, I’ll get a thoracic spine/heart/lung shot which anchors them instantly.
The Predator pellet is a wonderfully accurate pellet at further distances, but they are pricey. The .25 JSB Kings are accurate and hard hitting. The .25 Benji Domes at 28 grains are accurate and hard hitting. The 31 gr Baracudas are great…if your gun likes them.
The .22 crow magnums work well also at close ranges, but they just don’t have the mass like their big brothers do, (I know, duh!) Again, the .22 Predators get the nod.

For close range work they are amazing. Everything you described. But a lot of folks including myself shoot 50 yards minimum and they just don’t perform. But i know im my gun, i am pushing them too fast and that’s the issue right there. My gun is set up for domes.

@tof. you are right…push them too fast and accuracy goes all to hell, and their speed needs to be lower than domes
come to think of it, my crapid does 52 fpe with kodiaks….so with CM its probably more like 46-48 fpe (i havent had the chrony out since i got kids so i actually dont know)
