Q:

.257 barrel from RL

I was looking at a .257 barrel on the RL website

http://www.rlairgunsupply.com/airgun-accessories/257-airforce-drop-in-barrels-700mm-and-24/

So that lead me to thinking about getting one for my next AF condor. What kind of things would I need to be aware of? (ie. ammo, hammer up grade, etc.) I want to do this but I don’t want to do things half assed

Awesome, I was hoping that you would show up and clarify everything. I will be getting my hands on one of those barrels in the near future. If you come back on are you guys going to carry ammo for the new barrel or know where I’ll be able to obtain some

Guys
I do not like to ever post things on the forums but here goes!
We will not use sales gimmicks for anything we sell!
I do know exactly what I am selling and it is a .308 TJ barrel and it is doing exactly what we posted for velocities.
Yes we are shooting JSB 44 grainers out of it and 51’s, the 51’s are not as accurate.
The below statement is a poor analogy of the difference between .251 an .257.

Hell, I can shoot 20 cal pellets in my 30 FPE 22’s and get results like that………….lol!

I am not confussed and I am sorry if I sounded confused it is a .257 barrel with a 1:14 twist>

Already talked to Randy they are TJ barrels, and he was confused thinking they shot 303 pellets, anyway they are 24 in. and 27 somtin.

And they do not give you a shotgun pattern they are very accurate and very fast. The FPE is fantastic with out making major mods to your gun.
We have had a request for these same barrels in a heavier barrel and we are presently machining these for you.
All this being said I just wanted to set the record straight and the suggestion to call us is a great one we are always happy to give you our input.

Awesome I will be doing that

Yes, agree for 257, get the spring, weight, valve, everything that can make the gun the best it can be.

HUH?! CONFUSED as to caliber designation on a 257 vs 303?! 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯

I’m so damned confused now and good luck on your purchase……….WOW! LOL!

So, as to what you would need to get up and going, i would for sure hook up with Doug. Simply slapping a barrel such as the 257 and shooting slugs takes more than the valving that comes with a standard Condor. Even though bullets could be pushed, you are missing out on the true potential of the caliber without the valving.

Well then I’ve got some reviewing to do. Is there anything helpful out there as far as relining a barrel goes all the information I seem to find involves equipment I don’t own

Like the old man said, you can’t miss fast enough to win in a gun fight. Same goes for hunting!

Knife

I will check it out Mike. Glad you are posting results and NFO.

About the .257 barrel shooting JSB’s……………I would simply call RL and get the low down straight from them. 1300 fps using a 250 cal pellet in a 257 groove barrel is not impressive. Hell, I can shoot 20 cal pellets in my 30 FPE 22’s and get results like that………….lol!

***HIGH velocity numbers with a gun is a sales gimmick UNLESS they can show and guarantee accuracy with said FPS and projectile!***

Yes, both Tof. and RC.have written extensively about the .257’s here on the TAG. Also, go to Tof’s videos. Lots of good info!

Read the post from Dyotat, and his machining vids that Tof did.

You guys can add me to the list of great accuracy with the .257. Posting pictures in a few minutes under .257 Goodness! 😀

KnifeMaker

Has to be a TJ barrel, as its only 1/2” OD.
What on earth they are shooting in it is a puzzler 😕

I don’t know why but I get stuck posting the same thing twice lol 😀

quote Tofazfou:

The Advertising don’t seem to contain all the right info. 257 barrels are for slugs and not pellets.

Unless the caliber designation is just a typo

That is what I am wondering myself

Interesting, I have thought about doing something special with my next AF gun but I already know I have a lot of work ahead of me. In the mean time is there anything I can read (websites and such) that will help with this undertaking

If it is a TJ barrel that is going to be a game changer, RL barrel and Doug’s valve/hammer a heavy spring and a 257420 mold and your set to shoot.

As for the Hunters Supply bullets, I have yet to hear from anyone getting good accuracy with them, by good accuracy I mean what Doug, Tofazfou, RJ and I are getting with our home cast bullets.

If you want truly accurate bullets for your TJ barreled gun get them from RJ Porter on this site, he shoots them and casts them one at time, not from automated machines. RJ can also cast them of pure lead, something HS can’t do with automated machines.

It would be interesting to see what a Condor SS would do with a 20 inch barrel under a end cap set up with all of Doug’s goodies.

Those posted results with the Kings are about a 100 FPS faster than my Talon SS was getting with a 17 inch LW barrel and Dougs smaller valve, Accuracy was poor.
