Q:

.257 Takes it’s first yote

I was doing a little woods walking today, and as it began to get dark, I saw somthing move through the cedar trees on the opposite side of my neighbors pond. At about 200 yards away, I couldn’t make out what it was. I brought the Zeiss to bare, and it was a dog, no a big fox. No, it was a damed Yote! 😯

It didn’t give me time to dial in the range, as it was trotting stright away from me. I put the 4th mil. Dot on it and fired at the head. I saw the fur part on the bottom of the neck. I had mis-read the range in my minds eye. So slightly over 200 yards. The yote droped, got back up, spun around, hit the ground again and once again gained his footing. He spun around one more time, and headed for the scrub cedars. He only made it a few yards in before I heard a lot of thrashing. Sounded like DRT to me! :8:

I would have like to have tracked it, but even though my neighbor has ask that I shoot any yotes I see on sight, I am not allowed on the property with or without a gun. I have to shoot from my property, and leave em lay. Damed strange if you ask me.

People are damed strange about their property here. 😕

The gun was a Dyotat .257 loaded with a cut down lyman mold 257420 20-1 lead bullet, @ 54 grains. tuned to 1000 fps. And it is VERY accurate! So 200 yards was well with in its sweet spot. 😉 KnifeMaker

Oh Hell, Now I feel all back of the bus—–AGAIN! 😆 Day before yesterday I shot some groups that SUCKED I decided to try cleaning the bbl. and the groups were very good again. But the group with a fresh bbl. went .420 for 4 @ 80 yards and the 5th was a flier. 😯 opening it up to 1.126 👿 so I guess a sucky group. Acutally it was the first shot was off at 3 0″clock, then the next 4 huddeled up together. Clean bbl. sydrome I guess . Here by known as CBS. 😉

(ususallly it takes more than one to get the barrel shooting again. So I shouldn’t complain.) 😆 Instead of the usual brush, oil patch, dry patch, all I did was put a brush wrapped with two dry patches around it and gave it a light scrubing. Only 4-5 passes. And shot the group. The groups shrank from 2 1/2′ Down to “Nice”. I’ll take it!

Thats when I picked up the gun and went on the woods walk. I love it when a plan comes together! 😀

Knife

LOL!

Ohhh, i have a feeling soon someone (not me) is gonna give it a go and post “GREAT” Results. I love when people show a group with 12 shots that all over the place and then pick 5 of them that are .5″ and claim that group was consecutive 5 shots then mysteriously…………THE WIND PICKED UP for the next 5….lol!

To all out there……….if you post a group and its 4″ but only 3 of them are 1/4″ of an inch, then you simply can’t claim the 4 shot group of 1/4 of an inch. ITS A 4 INCH GROUP…….PERIOD.

I’ve shot some 2 inch groups with 2 of the 5 shots touching and i NEVER claim the 2 shots as 1/4″….lol! Its a 2″ group.

NO CHEATING

Tofazfou,

I hope they don’t damage the International space station by trying. 😛

be careful RC……..someone WILL probably soon show us a shot like that with the 30 cal Diablo shooter…… 😯 😛

Mike,

That does SUCK about your neighbor not allowing you on the property. Damn man, nothing like retrieving the kill. A 200 yard shot on a yote deserves a pic man. But of course i’m a photo junky.

YOU NEIGHBOR SUCKS…………….lol!

Congrats on the shot though….just razzin ya

Great off hand shot Mike.

Now that is what these cast bullet rifles are for.

Now tell me all about how you guys with your Diablo 30’s would have made that shot. 😛
