Q:

257cal

Who would be the best to order a 257 cal barrel from? And do they just drop in and shoot well as the other smaller cals do?

Not true!

However, if done properly, it can make the barrel even more accurate. However, the real advantage, is the barrel will be smoother, and proper lapping, and polishing will greatly lengthen the time between cleanings. Mine was, (Both barrels, one from R&L, one from Doug) were supremely accurate. Both however needed cleaning after apx. 30-35 shots. After lapping, this increased to 120+. Now after shooting many-many rounds, it is well over 200 before cleaning.

Properly sized bullets make a huge difference in cleaning requirements as well. As does a good bullet lube. Many of us have found that RC Shock oil in 10 WT works very well. I get mine from Lucas oil. It is available on E-bay for around 7 bucks. 😉

I understand that the barrel must be lapped for it to shoot very well. Is this true?

A condor valve won’t give you the best performance. But yes the barrel will drop in if you get one from RandL or Doug Nobel.
