260 yard shooting FX Royale 400 a" Smidge 2 far"

I had to move my target because I was hitting the lower limbs of the Doug Fir tree.

With a mid range trajectory of 8 feet and a 260 inch drop you have to have nothing above the target. A .223 shooting a 55 grain Spitzer at 3100 FPS will have this same drop, with a 100 yard zero, at 800 yards.

It takes 1.5 seconds to hit the target with a 18.1 grain Exact at 900 FPS, the sound of the hit takes 2 3/4 seconds to travel back to me.

The pellet is not quite buried flush in the Doug Fir plywood and is hitting at 4 FPE.

With a 50 yard zero I have 75 MOA of elevation left on the Leupold VXIII 4.5×14 30 MM Long Range, this means I can dial to 230 yards, and use the 15 MOA mark on the 21 inches MOA on the reticle to hit the plywood.I have not shot any groups yet, just getting the zero so far.

Very few scopes will do this because of the lack of adjustment.

Wind is a factor, 1 MPH blows the pellet 12 inches, I have two wind flags I use, one at 200 and one at 50 yards.

I plan on putting up a two tiered gong, the outer ring will be 24 inches with a 12 center cutout. The 12 inches that is cut out will be suspended over the center by hanging cables, this will give me three different noises from the two gongs and the plywood backing to let me know where the hits are.

No real practical value for killing anything at this range, not enough accuracy or power, but just hearing the thwack puts the fun factor off the scale.

It looks like you’re having some serious fun there! Excellent, half inch groups at 50 get boring after a while and changing things up with ludicrous range or special targets is what keeps the fun alive. And let’s face it, airguns are about challenge and fun. Guys that demand .338 magnums or above to hunt deer or can’t imagine why anyone would shoot expensive guns with many more parts that can break and that require a whole support system when they could just buy a cheap PB at WalMart will never get it!

It is really hard to get a zero on it due to the variable wind at that distance.

I have had a expired propane tank hanging in the middle of that target this afternoon that I shoot at. You either here a thwack from a hit on the plywood or a ding from a hit on the tank, somethimes a tink if you hit the base rim.

Most times it shoots a magazine in a 10 or 12 inch group, but I did get one 7 inch group.

I know that does not sound like stacking them, but there are a lot of things at work, just not a matter of taking your best 5 shot 50 yard group and timesing it by 5 unfortunately.

One other thing it tells you, those figures of 3 decimal point places they show on Chairgun, they could probably be rounded up to the closest inch.
At that range they are lucky to be within 6 inches in actual field shooting.

Very Cool, RC! It’d be funny as hell to drive one of your buddies nuts by firing (keeping windage way far away) into the trees from that distance…”what was that?!” What the..?” Or, scare the crap out of deer (or Hoot), especially with the gong.

Who knows the real speed, eh? At that range it’s suffering major deceleration. Great to know someone is exploring the limits and compiling some fun data.

Gorgeous place, too. What’s that tree in the foreground with the brown clusters? Looks a lot like a filbert/hazel nut from the pic.

I have not timed it, just took it off of chairgun. It is a 1.5 second flight, now if you average the speed of sound and the 900 FPS velecity, the flight time would be 2.88 seconds.

Whne I competed in 1000 yard BPCR shooting it took 5 seconds with the same type gongs.

A .223 is going 1024 FPS at that 800 yards.

The challenge is the fun part! 4FPE. 😆 I bet it would still hurt like hell though.

Are you sure the whole trip isn’t the 2.75 seconds? Your not shooting super sonic to the target, right, so the return velocity for the sound should be around 1070fps… And if your under that going to the target the travel time going should be slightly more that the sound time back. 1.5+1.25=2.75?

Curious, do you know the velocity of that 223 round when it hits a target at 800 yards? 😀
