.308 Corsair at varying ranges to…..155 yrds!

Man, i’ve been having a ton of fun with my Corsair. I ordered and received yet another bullet shape/mold to try in my Corsair and i’ve been anxious to try em out every since i’ve cast some up. I’ve been wanting to go LIGHTER in weight since i’ve already tried bullets up to 155 grs. So far, every bullet that i’ve cast for this gun has proven itself to shoot very accurately. A testament to Randy and Dan build quality. Since Robert Vogel’s 125 gr HP bullets shot so well in my gun i wanted to mock up a 125 gr HP of my own. But, i wanted something with a more streamlined shape. So off i go to search the net for something with more of a RN shape then i could simply have it HP’d with a small opening. In my thinking, i would still get some of the effects of a HP and still have a very streamlined bullet to help with downrange efficiency. I went with a Lyman .311″ RN mold.

So now, enough of my blabbering. Here are the bullets and the mold (bullets in the pics are not sized):

On this outing, i finally had a chance to test out not only my new 128.5 gr HP’s but finally i could test my semi new 148.5 HP’s. Here are 2 pics of groups from the 128.5 and the 148.5 gr HP’s at 55 yrds:

Also included is a video of me testing not only my 2 new HP’s but, also the Corsair (DANG, HOW FAR CAN THIS THANG’ SHOOT?). Oh yeah, i added a lil’ touch of humor to the video as i was also out shooting with my UNCLE JEB. He is one hard guy to please and he really pushed me and the Corsair. But i have a feeling, he is not done with me and my BB guns yet…lol:

Slayer…the gun is actually loud. Kinda like a 9mm Career ultra on high power or thereabouts. The camera that i have really doesn’t duplicate sound very well. Also, the problem also is that when you shoot in 2 different areas like i did in that video, you get one BOOM that sounds like a PB gun and when you are in the wide open flat deserts, the gun still has a SLAP to it but the mic doesn’t pick up the sound as well cause the sound is going forward of the camera and is not bouncing around off hills and trees like when i shoot in a forest. Watch the part of the video were i’m shooting 3 bottles on a log at 88 yrds and you can hear the ECHOING BOOM! Turn up your speakers….

PB…all i’ve ever shot all my life has been powder cartridge guns and i still do. Even when i’m out with my BB guns, i have my 10mm and 40 cal or 22 lr and 6.5x55mm Swede. But at best, if i could compare the 308 CORSAIR to any PB gun POWERWISE it would be something in the 32 acp or 38 special or 380 pistol rounds. Even maybe the 17 hmr and or 22 MAG. But again, that’s just using the shear FPE numbers of the CORSAIR which is 250 fpe MAXED OUT with 155 gr BULLETS. But i would have to say that i’m sure the CORSAIRS bullets being 308 and pointy as well as having much higher sectional densities they penetrate better than any of the above mentioned rounds. But, that’s just me half guessing based off what i’ve seen in the field. I know for sure that if a big yote is standing broadside to me at lets say 50-60 yrds the 308 bullets would zip right through him. Im sure bone would not even stop that slug. Again, that’s just me guessing based off all the info, pics and videos that i’ve studied (yes, i study my videos..lol). I’ve seen guys shoot yotes with 25 cal condors and marauders and such at 50 yrds and even those low FPE domes either fully penetrated or almost did. I honestly would rather shoot a yote with my 308 than with my 457. I know that my 457 is OVERKILL on a small cali yote.

that’s some fine stuff you have there, i have a question for you, how much shooting have you done with cartridge firearms

i was wandering about the killing power, or power of the .308 air rifles compared to firearms. what would you say that the .308 cal air rifles have killing power equal to in a powder firing rifle.

you can compare the energies of each , but i think that with the caliber and weight of the projectiles it throws the figures off trying to just compare energies like that as far as game taking ability.

did not seem that loud in the video, how loud is it compared to an unshrouded .22 condor?

Slayer, sure does. Being that the bullets are 308 diameter and they are actually BULLETS, the have pretty high BC’s unlike pellets. When i shoot at 100 yrds, i can tell the bullets have retained a lot of velocity. I’ve shot my Rapid .25 using 25.4 gr JSB’s at 940 side by side with the Corsair and i can see that the slower 308 bullets still get to 100 yards a lot quicker.
