3rd Confirmed Kill.. With Pics! Take A Look

Early this morning my wife noticed a raccoon strolling across the front of the yard. It was broad daylight @ 9AM, so a bit unusual to see a coon at this time. Usually we see them at night with the flashlights.

I quickly grabbed my Condor .22 from the corner and stepped out onto the back porch to cut it off as it was making its way horizontally across the yard. It stopped in its tracks @ 41 yards (later confirmed with range finder) and stared at me, providing a perfect frontal shot (you know, the kind of position we all love where the chest and head are perfectly aligned with our crosshairs, giving us a perfect opportunity at either a direct chest/heart or head shot.)

I leaned down, rested the for-end on the porch railing, placed the reticle directly between the eyes of the coon, took the habitual deep breath, then gently squeezed the round off.

The coon dropped like a sack of potatoes, providing a few moments worth of muscle contractions. The coon was dead instantly as the pellet shattered its brain cavity.

HERES THE BEST PART:

As some of you may recall based on other posts, I’ve turned my Condor way down. (You may recall the dead squirrel I took at only 400 PSI).

Well my Tophat is adjusted so far down that it is just snug against the 1 o-ring I have behind it. (No calipers and no chronograph so no official measurements.) I will say the output is very minimal as I am shooting it at night and the neighbors don’t have a clue.
I am getting at least 100+ good shots from 2,500 down to 2,000 PSI. I can easily see the pellet in flight through my scope so I know my FPS is EXTREMELY low.

I have left it this way so I can enjoy some quiet plinking with a very high shot count. PSI was at exactly 2,000 when this shot was taken.

Pellet was a Crossman Premier 14.3 Grain .22 Round Nose

Target was to the left of the big tree, next to the dog run.

I wanted to share all this information with you guys because it illustrates just how important shot placement is over velocity, FPE, etc. I know my FPS is stupid low, yet with a good placed shot the damage was superb.
