400 pellets later I saw the light
As I sat down to write the events of pellet lobbing today, I started to outline how I spent the entire afternoon testing and tuning my Condor 25. (Not a first for many of you whom will read this post, I’m sure) 😛
I was going to write how my goal was to achieve as flat of a shot curve as possible, producing at least 50FPE, (900fps with 27.8g pellets) and hoping to get 35+ shots. And how after shooting over 400 pellets with every combination of different top hat, power wheel and pressure settings I was able 🙁 to get there. (At least for today as I’m running low on pellets.) And I managed to almost shoot through my pellet trap. (I had to do this shooting in my garage. The neighbors would have freaked with all that lead flying):shock::shock:
Then I realized I was looking a gift horse in the mouth. ❗ ❗ 😯 OK, the FPE ended up at 60 and I only got 24 shots….. but how much flatter could I ask for? 🙄 I never got all this and a bag of chips from my .25 Mrod. Just how many varmints and pest was I going to shoot on a single fill? A childhood dream come true. Check it out.

Of course, I want to share my findings with my Brothers In Air as many of you have been kind enough to answer my questions that I’ve asked after others who have asked them before. Hope this helps someone at least get a starting point.
My settings:
Tophat = .069” measured with a feeler gauge
Power wheel setting 1-11 (assuming the front edge of the power wheel screw is the “zero” pointer)
Start pressure is 2400psi
Pellets are Benjamin Domes 27.8 grain
Going out to my private range after I put the kiddies on the school bus in the morning and see I can get a 10 shot group inside an inch at 55 yards (my kill zone) If so,I will be one happy shootin camper! 😆 😆
Now I’m thinkin I need a .22 barrel so I can tune it 😀

You were hot and heavy on this for a while, and had several threads going on this subject. In one of those threads, you were gonna try lowering the fps to around 900, I was waiting to see how it worked out for you, as I was shooting above 950.
Never heard anymore about it, so I dumped my speed down to around 900fps. I think 900fps is the magic number for Benji 27.8 grainers. I dont know if 900 is the magic number for everyone, but I think its a good starting point
I’m a new Condor owner and still have a lot to learn and this is excellent info-thanx! My rifle will be upgraded to .22 soon and this gives me a good idea of how things should look.

Mrnewbie – Sorry…:oops: It seemed like the weather has kept me from finishing what I started. When I had a decent day, I had something else consume my time. As a matter of fact, I’ve not pulled the trigger on MY Condor in about three weeks. I’ve been slammed tuning other peoples’ rifles.
But I’m glad you brought it up. I’ve got to get back to testing. With it getting dark earlier, my evenings have been spent crony testing a bunch of rifles. My next up testing will be groups in 10 yard increments starting at my zero of 55 yards. I just acquired a 24” .22 barrels that I hope to test also.

FYI – I read somewhere that one of the pellet engineers “designed” the Benjamin’s to be accurate at 800FPS. However, my grouping shots at 55yards shows definitively 1” groups at my chrony testing of 1000fps. Also, this is prior to me doing the trigger mod shown here on the forum. Undoubtedly, this will help with even greater accuracy. I won’t be able to test until the end of the week. The damn wind isn’t supposed to die down until Thursday.
