I’ve been having a bit of trouble in paradise… My gun has been shooting great untill just the last few days. It just isn’t shooting like it did before. Awesome group one minute, terrible the next, and I know it’s not me. I brought this up with PAG Steve, and the breach o-ring came up in the discussion, so I went outside today, took the mag out and looked close.
It doesn’t appear to be ripped or torn at all, it’s all one piece, (can’t see the other side of 0-ring with mag housing in the way) but the rounded edges do appear to be kinda flattened out, where the pellets rub against as they are pushed in. I’m thinking this may increase the ID of the 0-ring, possibly letting air get by from time to time, explaining the erratic behavior. Then I thought I’d try the tissue paper trick, laying a small piece just behind the mag, and dry firing. The tissue did flip up a bit, so there must be some air getting by, I did this twice.
Could this be the reason for inconsistant accuracy on this gun? I called Steve to send me a new o-ring, but he’s out of town, and it’s a different size from AF rings, (smaller) But this is driving me nuts… if it’s not the o-ring than I’m not sure what else it could be. Any others go thru this?

do your groups return to normal at the bigining of your next shooting session and then group larger? are you shooting outdoors, how is the weather?? when i shoot my rapid in the full texas sun of summer, my groups go from one hole to shotgun in a matter of 24 shots from the heat, and return to one hole after it cools down…. just something else to consider…..
Yep do that quite often. Use Beemans bore cleaner, works real good
you might also try cleaning the bore if its leaded up that may be effecting accuracy also.
Riff, I think I saw something on the Yellow about those 2 o-rings in the shroud. But yeah, hopefully it’s just the breach ring, I’ll go for that first. God I get cranky when something goes south on my AG’s. I’m serious, I’m bummed until it gets figured out. My girlfriend? She just rolls her eyes, shakes her head lol. Most of the time its an o-ring alright. But not always the one in the barrel.
There is a fluted bushing inside the shroud that sits on the end of the barrel. It has 2 orings on it that keep the shroud centered with the barrel. Those rings can fail, causing the shroud to droop in turn causing clipping.
If changing the breech oring doesnt fix yur problem, you may have to take the shroud off and gett that bushing out.
FYI, use a good strap-wrench to remove it, it is threaded right-hand and takes a bit of effort to get it started. A little heat from a heatgun helps, do not use flame or get it too hot.
Once he shroud is off, get a stiff rod and push the bushing out of the shroud from the muzzle end. The orings are 1/16″ thick, I dont remember the diamter, however they are stretched really tight around the bushing. This is what I think caused mine to fail, one of thm was torn and broke in half.
Part of the problem s reinserting this bushing into the shroud, you have to push it across the threaded inside which can retear the goddamn orings. I finally just made a new bushing without orings, .394ID and .629OD. The end of the barrel is stepped to .393″ the last 1.5″. The rest of the barrel is .478″OD.
I accidentally ruined the baffles by overheating the tube the second time, they melt easy so go easy on the heat!!! SoI had to built a different setup without a barrel band–I hate that barrel band idea.
Good luck, its actually easier than all this sounds. Just getting the damn tube off the gun for the first time is the hardest part, it appears to be locktited or glued. Its a fairly thickwalled aluminum tube so not much chance of bending it, but having said that be careful if this is the route you have to take.

Change breech rings first, prefix 009 will help you find what you need for breech rings. I ended up just getting Buna by the bag from McMaster. I change the ring about once a month, easy once you get it figured out. Mac1 sells rings that supposedly last a very long time.

Yeah I hear that, but I never shoot under direct sunlight, in fact, most of my shooting is from the inside of a air conditioned house, out the back window. Or I’ll shoot outside, but under the patio roof in the shade. Here’s what I was easily able to do a few days ago, not bad, I was pleased enough…
Here’s the last targets I shot. The green arrows show the two that the gun should be doing on a pretty consistant basis, but look the at the others just before or after those. Some of those other groups are pretty bad for this gun at this distance. Really hope a new breach o-ring takes care of this.
