Q:

.457 Condor

Have had this barrel for awhile. 32″ .457 1:20. Figured out what size to machine the breech so I put it in the lathe and cut it. I went through this before and forgot what size I was going to machine the breech. So this time I cut a piece of aluminum to the size the barrel needs to be at the breech. Then took a old breech that was cut wrong and opened it up to fit the piece. Cut o ring grooves inside both ends and it fit nice.

Still trying to figure out how I want to do the hammer. I’m going with at least 150 gram hammer and there isn’t much room when the barrel is .560″ OD. Normally I machine the barrel to .500″ where the hammer slides. Then hammer is bored to .600″ and the lined with oil filled nylon. This hammer will be different and won’t have a nylon nose like my hammers normally do.

Even had to turn the barrel where the PW goes so it would fit.

Will start with one of my valves with a stem that has a larger tophat. If I get tank dump I will go with a different type valve I have. Looking for 600+ fpe.

I even have to go find a larger brass screw to polish the crown it’s so big.

Would love to see enough detail to follow along. I think I have a .458 blank laying around…

Will follow along on this too! have enjoyed it Doug when you share tips and pictures along the way! Sure wish someone had a real good PDF of how to tune a AF Condor/Talon, from start to finish.

Thanks Doug!

cant wait to see. anyway why dont you machine a new frame for it doug? while at it you can strengthen it, put the cocking on the side do whatever you want

Wow I would love to get into these condor kits because I just started casting bullets for .357 and .457 samyang rifles. If there’s a .257, 9mm or .45 kit for my condor I would be interested. I am in Toronto and my email is joeeigo@gmail.com.

8 left? Builds? Frames? I’m looking for another old trigger condor frame to start a 7mm or 30 cal build. If I track one down, let me know when you are up for another project 😀

Nope, not yet on the 257.. I just picked up a leatherwood scope and just need some rings. I hope to be out shooting by next weekend to try it out. The wife and kids will be out of town for a few weeks and hope to get out a couple of times during this timeframe. I’ll keep you posted and I can’t wait!

What is the max power of the 7mm and 357 going to be?

Yes. I have 8 left I think. I have 3 builds going on right now. 7 mm, .357, and .457. The .357 has only a bushing fit to a frame and bored for the barrel. It’s nice to take a part that didn’t work originally and make it work somewhere else.

Have you got to shoot your .257 yet?

Nice! Are you using an old trigger condor frame?

Bored the one piece bushing today and drilled the holes for the grub screws. I hade a few laying around that weren’t a perfect fit for guns I have worked on. Good thing about having a box full of frames is I can pick a frame that the bushing fits perfect.

Made the breech the other day. Nice o ring fit. Next I will make the hammer blank.

Finally a successor to the CygnusX monster Condor, cant wait. Do your magic machining Doug

Yes all barrels get crowned. They are just cut to what ever you order with a saw.

Doug did you crown all your TJ barrels, cause I did my .30, but not my .45 barrel

Needs to be a thin barrel. This barrel is .680″ OD.

I will post pics of everything but not going to give away all my secrets:)

Breech is machined to .540″ so a 113 o ring can be used inside the breech. Then barrel is machined .560″ where my hammer slides. Next is step is .650″ where the pw is.

Would love to see enough detail to follow along. I think I have a .458 blank laying around…
